Posting ,jpg image on Mac/Facebook

When I post a .jpg image on Mac/Facebook, it is grainy and the color isn't too good.  Very new to Corel, a beginner!  Any tips?

  • I don't use facebook, but google found this article which gives the correct image sizes: http://www.ragan.com/Main/Articles/Image_sizes_on_Facebook_A_cheat_sheet_46635.aspx

So, the first thing you need to do is to identify which type of image you want to create in that guide and note the correct size in pixels for that type of image.

If you are designing in CorelDraw, go to file > new and choose preset destination of Web.

    • In the Create New Document screen, check that the colour mode is RGB and the image size button alongside width says pixels (the web preset should set these) and set the correct width and height according to the size chart
    • Click OK to create the document
    • Important: Add a page frame! It ensures that you will export to the correct size.
      • Go to Layout > Page Setup and press the Add Page Frame button
      • Click OK to create the page frame
      • If you want an overall background, you can add a fill colour to the page frame
      • Important: Click on the pen tool and change the page frame to no outline. If you don't do this, your image will export slightly too large.
      • If you did want an outline, create it using a single step inside contour.
      • Recommended: Right click on the page frame and lock it to prevent accidental movement. Or if you created a contour, right click on it and break apart, then lock both objects.
    • Design your image. Do not allow anything to extend outside the page border.
    • Important: Save as CDR file for further editing
    • File > Export.
      • Save as type: PNG or JPG as required
      • Add a file name
      • Click Export
      • Near bottom right, check transformation shows the exact correct size in pixels
      • At top. click the 1:1 button which shows the preview as it should appear in a web page
      • If saving to JPG, try quality=50% (do not confuse this with % in transformations, which must stay at 100%). The preview will change according to the chosen quality. Choose the lowest setting that looks good.
      • If saving to PNG compression is non-lossy and quality should always be good.
      • Try with anti-aliased on or off. Probably on will be best but there may be occasions when off works better.
      • Keep the colour mode as RGB. Don't embed a profile or use colour proof settings.
      • Click OK to save the file

If you are designing in photopaint  go to file > new and choose preset destination of Web.

    • In the Create New Image screen, check that the colour mode is 24 bit RGB and the image size button alongside width says pixels (the web preset should set these) and set the correct width and height according to the size chart
    • Choose a background colour if required
    • Click OK to create the document
    • Design your image. Do not allow anything to extend outside the page border.
    • Important: Save as CPT file for further editing
    • File > Export.
      • Save as type: PNG or JPG as required
      • Add a file name
      • Click Export
      • Near bottom right, check transformation shows the exact correct size in pixels
      • At top. click the 1:1 button which shows the preview as it should appear in a web page
      • If saving to JPG, try quality=medium (50% -- but do not confuse this with % in transformations, which must stay at 100%). The preview will change according to the chosen quality. Choose the lowest setting that looks good
      • If saving to PNG compression is non-lossy and quality should always be good.
