I updated a few files from CDR12 to 16. Some open OK but I get this message with some -
In the file details, under Properties/Details/Origin, the ones that say "Tool Version 16.0.0.1281" will open.
The files that say "Tool Version 16.0.0.999" don't.
Tried copying to other folders with no luck. What options do I have to retrieve these files?
Harry - I tried all that. Sorry, I should have said that.
Hugh - funny, but fonts crossed my mind too. There are some odd fonts in there and maybe they're not quite the same in both XP and W7. I tried deleting fonts and objects in the file until it was virtually empty, in which case, I may as well recreate it from scratch! Painful, as I have quite a lot of files that won't open and some of them are quite complex compared to that one. Logically, IMHO, it can't be objects because Draw is the same on both machines and only Draw handles these.
I'll copy across the font files from the PC to the laptop and see what happens. Glad (!) you could see the problem - I don't feel so lonely now!
Harry - sorry, our answers crossed in the ether. I can now open that file without any problems! Yay! I accepted the font substitutes, by the way. Can you do the same for all my other files!
Hello shelley; I converted the file to Curves and it would open in X6. Before converting it to curves I go the error also. So as stated above at least one of the fonts may be bad. When it is converted to curves you no longer have text in the file.

If there are not too many of them, I can certainly do that, but it may take a few days.
What happens if you replace the original fonts in the converted file -- does the problem come back? If it does, then we know it's a font that is causing the problem and fixing (or not using that font) that may be easier.
One step forward, one step back.
Harry - The file you sent certainly does open up on the laptop - however, I've since found it doesn't open on the PC
George - I converted two files to curves - one worked, one didn't. This suggests it's not the fonts (unless I missed one).
Hugh - I copied across the font files from the PC, so they are now exactly the same - no change.
Here's what else I tried - I saved the files in CDR15 format. They now opened in both laptop and PC. Hurrah! . But when re-saving in CDR16, they become openable only on that machine. So, as long as I save the files in CDR15 format, I'll be able to open the files on either machine. Does this make sense to anyone?
I could still delete objects and fonts one by one, as suggested but I tried this with one file and as I said, there was nothing left before the file worked.
