How do I put a texture on a path? I have been looking for some way to do this for many years. I came back to X6 quite a long time, and there still seems to be nothing to do this. I have searched Google and various other places. Searched here also. I want to put a road texture on a path, so I can make a curvy road. And many more examples. It seems I come up against this issue regularly.
If you want textures like this to follow a path, Artistic Media is the tool to use. There are two types you save: Brushes and Object Sprayer (a.k.a. Brushstrokes and Image Lists). If you save as a brush the object will stretch along the full path. If you save as an Object Sprayer the object will repeat along the path.
First thing to do is Open the Artistic Media Docker. Down at the bottom of the docker is a save button. Select the object, click to save, choose Brushes, give it a name and save it. It will now appear at the bottom of the AM docker or in the custom drop down list on the property bar.
Saving as a brush would probably work best for the highway, except for the white lines, but you could duplicate the path for this and then change it to a dashed line.
Create something like this and save it as a brush:
Create your path with one of the outline tools, duplicate it and move the duplicate out of the way. Apply the new brushstroke. To apply, you can select the path and then choose your new brushstroke, or you can drag & drop the brushstroke from the docker onto the curve. Adjust width as needed.
Move the duplicate curve back into place, change it to a dashed line and change the color to white.
That's the process in a nutshell, but you'll get the idea.
