CorelDraw X7 Preset fountain fill

I am trying CorelDraw X7 as a trial and am coming from CorelDraw 11.  I am switching due to the fact that I cannot get CorelDraw  11 to run on my new Windows 7 64-bit computer.  The problem I am having is that graphics I created in CorelDraw 11 and filled with gradients open correctly, but I cannot match the gradient fills I used in 11 when trying it in X7.  I open the gradient fill box and click on other gradients but they all have a transparent Corel balloon on them and they will not work.  What am I doing wrong?  How can I get the preset gradients from CorelDraw 11 into X7?

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Are you able to do a screen capture?

It's also useful if you can upload a CDR file that exhibits the problem, so we can try things out.

    • Here is the print screen of what I am talking about.  If I click on apply a Corel Window opens that asks me to register my trial.

      • It looks like you are trying to use fills from the content exchange. Some of them are for premium subscribers, so they probably aren't going to work on the trial. But it looks like you were previously in the correct place before you went into the content exchange.

I'm guessing that the fountain is not quite correct, but I can't tell what it should be.

Anyway, you double click on one of the fills and it should open the fill editor like this ...

The third icon in the top row (fountain fill) should be selected and is correct. Do not select another, otherwise you will be looking at the wrong types of fill.

Instead, you should be either ...

        • editing any of the colours in the small rectangles just below the blue preview square, or
        • moving the squares (other than the end two, which are fixed)

        or you could possibly:

        • click on white space between two squares, which will add another square in that position
        • double click on one of the squares, which will delete it
        • move the triangles, which control the mid point.

Editing one of the colour steps is not quite as simple as you might expect. You must first single click on the small square to select it for editing, and then open the drop down near the bottom left corner. There you can edit the actual colour in one of many ways. When you have the pattern you want, press OK to save the fill back to the object.

      • What I really am trying to do is use the same color gradients that were in Coreldraw 11; such as Red, Blue, Green, Pink, Yellow, etc; in Coreldraw X7.  They were basic gradients that I used in my graphics created in Coreldraw 11.  I cannot seem to find the same basic gradients in Coreldraw X7.  Were they removed?  What I am now going to have  to do is set up Coreldraw 11 on another computer, create a graphic that uses all the gradients in Corel 11 and open it in Coreldraw X7 in order to save the gradients as my personal gradients.  Is there no easier way?

        • OK, I now understand what you mean. But I looked in X4 (the oldest version I can still run) and found no evidence of any standard fills there.

It would probably be possible for somebody to add those fills to the content exchange, if they knew what those fills looked like, but that is not much help if you cannot use fills from the content library. But I think perhaps you can "register" your trial (using the same username and password that you are using to access the forum, or using a different ID if you prefer) without needing to buy the program until the trial expires.
