I recently upgraded from X6 to X7. I cannot get the edit bitmap feature to work, it is grayed out. I had this same problem when upgrading from X5 to X6. That problem was rectified by a re-install and reboot. After perusing the forum, I have tried, to no avail the following:
1.) Did a complete uninstall of all Corel products. Ran CCleaner to clean up registry entries. Did a complete reinstall. Rebooted. Did not fix.
2.) Went into both Corel Photo-Paint and CorelDraw and reset the "Associate" file extensions under Tools/Options. Made sure that CPT was selected in Corel Photo-Paint. Double checked the association in Windows explorer. Did not fix.
3.) Reset my workspaces (F8) command during start-up. Did not fix.
4.) Removed my workspaces under C:\Users\sccarter.DDS\AppData\Roaming\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X7\Draw\Workspace. Restarted CorelDraw. Did not fix.
5.) Uninstalled Corel Windows Shell. Reinstalled Corel under custom options and installed the shell. Did not fix.
6.) Waved my magic wand, did a chant, said a prayer. Did not fix.
I am running Windows 7, 64 bit version of x7.
If any other users have experienced this same problem and was able to fix it, please forward the magic potion to me... it would be much appreciated!
Scott, this sounds like a registry issue.
Can you look up a few of these values in the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) ?
1) what is the value of this key?
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.CPT
(Should be "CorelPHOTOPAINT.Image.17")
2) Assuming 1 was correct, can you look up this key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CorelPHOTOPAINT.Image.17\CLSID
Should be a long guid here,
{a43cbf70-0ffa-3a89-42f9-11edfed78598}
3) If everything is ok so far, then have a look here:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{a43cbf70-0ffa-3a89-42f9-11edfed78598}
You should see a LocalServer32 key with the value pointing to your PhotoPaint executable.
Let me know if you find any issues there.
Thanks,
Andrew
Hello Andrew,
Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately I threw in the towel, reformatted my hard drive, and after I install the 1,500+ Windows updates, I am going to revert back to version X6.
It probably was a registry entry issue, which was my assumption all along.
At least these posts are archived, so if users have similar issues, this would be a good reference.
This was the first response I have received ,(or located via searching the internet groups), that mentions checking specific registry entries.
Scott
Sorry to hear that Scott.
If you ever encounter problems in this area please post or feel free to message me directly.
Thanks.
Hello Andrew and the team responding to my issues with X7.
So I installed X6 (64 bit), after formatting my hard drive, installing Windows 7, etc. Bitmap editor worked great.
I then installed the 64 bit version of X7, and the editor now works in that application as well.
My guess is that there were registry entry problems because I had so many prior versions of Corel installed (and uninstalled) on this system.
Furthermore, I think it may have been a conflict between the 32 bit version of X5 registry entries and the 64 bit version of Corel entries (not sure, but that is my guess).
Nevertheless, the application is working now, and all of the additional issues I had with X7, seemed to be rectified.
I appreciate everyone who took the time out of their day to assist me with my problem.
Now back to designing!!!
Regards,
Great to hear Scott.
Definitely the 'Edit Bitmap' button is enabled based not only on the current selection but on also being able to trace a path through the registry to your CPT editor. I would agree that the problem was likely there.
Hi there
I'm having the same problem with Photopaint X7. Every time I try and select PP via 'open with' it does not show up in the list
I've followed your walk through the registry. Everything looks the same until I get to the last step. all I have is:
This implies I have the key that points to the app is missing . I'm not familiar with registry editing but howe would I add the required key here?
Cheers
John
Did't work for me, Have changed in reg editor to .17 (was .15 I guess because I have Wilcom Deco Studio e2 with Corel x5) but no effect!
Is there any other way ?
Have you restarted CorelDraw since you changed the registry values? Rebooting may also be sensible (and double check the registry values after the reboot).
