MIssing file icons

Hi all, when opening a file my icons are displaying oddly.  Most of my files are CorelDraw X5.

Below are some screen shots.

When initially opening in X7 the icons are totally blank.

If I open a file and save it as X7 and then go to open filesagain a few icons now display properly but not all.  If I scroll down the vast majority do not show.  I have tried changing display methos, small icons large icons etc. Closing reopening etc.  Always the same.    They display correctly from any other application including CorelDraw X5.

This is from X5 all fine.

  • Is there a thumbs.db file in the folder?

To see it, you may need to go to control panel > folder options and turn on view > advanced settings > hidden files and folders > show ... if you have not previously done this.

If there is, try deleting it and see if that makes any difference,

Windows 7 also keeps a thumbnail cache in %appdata%\..\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer. Is there at least one of them with today's date?

    • Thanks Harry,

Deleteing thumbs.db has not helped.  Cleared all thumbs caches in Window/Explorers and all now have todays date.

Ran CCleaner on registry - did not help.

I installed the 7.1 patch last night - still the same.

My terminology was incomplete.  Im missing thumbnails and icons.  Changing folder display settings (show icons only etc) does nothing.

Turns out its not only happening when opening files from within CD X7 but also from windows explorer.   Its pretty much the same from either.

Oddly and probably pretty importantly opening through CD X5 presents all thumbnails for all file types perfectly but not all with icons.  The files that are missing icons are the same ones that dont diplay correcty in Windows Explorer or CDX7. Go figure....

This is definitely new - only since installing X7.

CDR and CPT file types are the only ones effected.

When there is no thumbnail there is no icon - or vice versa.

Newly created X7 files do not have thumb nails or icons.

      • What version of windows are you using?

        • a quick update.

I uninstalled CDX7 and restarted.  Thumbnails and icons in all programs inc Windows Explorer came back to normal.

Reinstalled X7 and things have remained normal.  Reinstalled X7.1 update and remained normal.

Touchwoody it stays this way : )

I had an issue where EDIT BITMAP button was greyed out.  This is a registry issue which had to be fixed again.

          HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.CPT

(Default should be "CorelPHOTOPAINT.Image.17")  Sadly this stops X5EDIT BITMAP button from working.

I had an issue with old GMS macros causing a set of 4 error messages.  This issue remains.

          • Hi Harry, Windows 7 64 bit

This thumbnail/icon issue is resolved for me now.

Thank you for your input on all issues.

            Dave

If you mean the edit bitmap function inside X5 CorelDraw, then the expected behaviour is that the link should remain available, but it should now launch X7 photopaint. Windows OLE does not allow X5 and X7 to call different CPT editors.

The old GMS errors are probably best taken up with the authors of those macros.

              • Hi, please how did you finally resolve the issue? i am currently facing same problem, all icons are fainted and i have uninstalled and reinstalled corel with no apperant solution
