Although there are some good things in X7, and as a long-time use of Draw (since v 1.02) it's one of my all time favourite programs, I have to say I've not been that impressed with X7 since upgrading from X6 (and yes, I've updated to 7.1).
For example, just one of the simple things I was hoping for, was an end to the problem of hyperlinks appearing in imported text when you select the "Discard Fonts and Formatting" option. Hyperlinks still appear, even though they shouldn't. Once in there, there doesn't seem to be any simple or easy method of removing them (i.e. there's no "select text and hit whatever...). Neither is there's an option in the Text Properties Docker for "remove hyperlink" (unless you've found one - I'm all ears).
I know can use "Paste Special" and select "Text" option, but this method will create it's own additional text box and is a bit too fiddly when you're pressing on and trying to get your work done. My point being that when you import text and select "Discard Fonts and Formatting" - it should do just that, and discard any hyperlinks! Simple refinements like this don't take much programming effort, yet can make Draw so much easier to use in day-to-day life.
And don't get me started on the "flat, white, no-border, 'running-in-the-background' look", the programme has - hate it. Or, the fact that you can't resize the "Options Dialog" - why?
Prof.
Just me then...
Pretty lonely place this forum.
Hi Lonely Professor,
In x7 go windows/dockers/Internet . Remove the link in that docker. In most cases I paste text into notepad to kill the formatting and then into Draw.
I am thinking wherever you are copying from, you are also taking the formatting codes of that program along and that could be your issue. Try pasting into notepad first than copy/paste into draw.
Also type in a text box and see if highlighting some words make the docker lite up, try it with artistic text.
You do have the 7.1 update installed?
Hi Bob,
Really appreciate your input. To answer your question, yes I have the 7.1 update installed.
But it may well be that I'm bringing in some formatting codes when importing text (usually from the internet.). Yes, there are workarounds such as the one you mentioned using Notepad. But this brings me back to my main point - when you import text in Draw and select "Discard Fonts and Formatting" it should do just that, discard all fonts and formatting, but it doesn't. There really shouldn't be any need to use workarounds or Notepad.
This problem was there in X6, yet these sort of everyday things are simple to fix and require very little programming effort. Likewise, allowing the user to resize the Options dialog would be a nice, thoughtful touch - except they still haven't done it.

I agree and in a perfect world it should/would work, so far no cigar. I think of pasting into notepad not as a work around but a methodology that works well. I have hundreds of sites on line and the interactive admin user type sites such as Drupal and php storefronts, etc. produce the same issues with users pasting all kinds of stuff in there. Thereto there are php filter solutions to the copy/paste but they are also not 100%.
So in most cases you can fix the link via the docker, in all cases notepad does a fine job for now.
Enjoyed the chat and as we're not in a perfect world, I might try adopting the Notepad method.
On a slightly different note, I tried to post a screen shot of my Internet Docker, but I couldn't get it to show in the actual post. I grabbed the screen shot(using Corel Capture, which sent the image to the Clipboard.
I then typed my reply and pasted the image into my posting, it appeared fine so I posted my message, but when it appeared in the forum, there was only a big empty space where the screenshot should have been. I don't know what happened or what I'd done wrong, but I couldn't get the image to appear in the forum post, even though it was clearly there during the editing.
Any ideas?

Pasted images are filtered out during the posting process. This is partly because pasted images cannot be handled efficiently -- they can be larger than the thread and would be sent to the browser every time you visit the page -- unlike a linked image which is sent once and held in the browser cache for subsequent display. There may also be a security problem in allowing you to paste arbitrary objects into forum posts.
The correct way to post an image in a post is to use the image icon above the text box ...
This does mean that you have to save the capture temporarily, but if it is on the clipboard you can quickly paste it into CorelDraw or Photopaint and save it as a 96dpi png or jpg.

Paste captured image into PP or PS then optimized for the web using png and not worry about dpi. When you "paste in from clipboard" it's there, no setting necessary. Set the size to 500px wide (downsize or crop what you want) or less. Dpi has no meaning on web based images, it only sees H x W. The way I upload images is click on "options tab" upload and save. I never tried it the the way Harry suggests. Harry always provides excellent info and help.
FYI: good read here on the dpi subject http://www.unleash.com/knpepper/dpi/
Hi Harry, Bob,
Many thanks to both of you for your excellent help and support.
Much appreciated.

It is not just CorelDraw that has this problem.
Windows 8 was the most obvious example. Very few people actually wanted the changes from windows 7 to windows 8 and arrogantly dropping the start menu (and then first refusing to listen, and then trying to fob people off with a start button that had no menu attached to it) was the downfall of windows 8. If windows 10 is to succeed, it needs to look and feel more like windows 7 than windows 8.
I would also guess that having to rewrite code that was perfectly working in XP and windows 7 to maintain compatibility with windows 8 is probably Corel's biggest unproductive timewaster and if microsoft could somehow be persuaded not to keep making these arrogant negative improvements, then Corel and other manufacturers could concentrate on making genuine improvements instead of constantly trying to stand still in a flood of totally unnecessary microsoft sewage.
However, the good news is that Corel may not have to repeat this exercise again for windows 10. So far, if microsoft forgets to do something to mess things up, X7 seems to be working in the windows 10 technical preview.
