Block shadow?

Creating a cast shadow is easy, you just duplicate the text and set it behind, but is there a way in CorelDraw to create a "block" shadow as shown in this image?

  • Like this ?

It is one of the options on Effects > Extrude.

    • Erm, ya, but wanting the exact results that I showed in my image - not a massive shadow.  I'm playing with that Extrude right now, but the controls are horrible.  There doesn't appear to be a preview, and I don't know why one can't simply grab a corner and move it around (with a preview) until you're happy with it and then apply.  Perhaps I'm not doing it right.

      • You want the back parallel option to get the result I showed. With this option, there is an X you can drag closer to make the shadow smaller.

Then the easy way to control the colours is object > break apart. You then have a separate shadow object which you can fill in whatever colour you want the shadow to be.

The lamps produce other, interesting, effects, but are not what you want.

        • Ah yes, the "Back Parallel" is the one.  The results are segmented, but they can be welded together if desired.  Thanks!

          • Much better.....

            • Signlab from Cadlink had (and I assume still does) a shadow module that gave great results every time. Also did an outline/shadow which was excellent. There was no guess work either, just type in the relief distance.

Be a very cool feature if Corel ever implemented it.

              Cheers

              Tim

              • Yes, the various sign software companies have always been light years ahead on this aspect.
