Creating a cast shadow is easy, you just duplicate the text and set it behind, but is there a way in CorelDraw to create a "block" shadow as shown in this image?
Like this ?
It is one of the options on Effects > Extrude.
Erm, ya, but wanting the exact results that I showed in my image - not a massive shadow. I'm playing with that Extrude right now, but the controls are horrible. There doesn't appear to be a preview, and I don't know why one can't simply grab a corner and move it around (with a preview) until you're happy with it and then apply. Perhaps I'm not doing it right.
You want the back parallel option to get the result I showed. With this option, there is an X you can drag closer to make the shadow smaller.
Then the easy way to control the colours is object > break apart. You then have a separate shadow object which you can fill in whatever colour you want the shadow to be.
The lamps produce other, interesting, effects, but are not what you want.
Ah yes, the "Back Parallel" is the one. The results are segmented, but they can be welded together if desired. Thanks!
Much better.....
Signlab from Cadlink had (and I assume still does) a shadow module that gave great results every time. Also did an outline/shadow which was excellent. There was no guess work either, just type in the relief distance.
Be a very cool feature if Corel ever implemented it.
Cheers
Tim
Yes, the various sign software companies have always been light years ahead on this aspect.
