I have some labels that consist of mostly grayscale objects and a single text object that is Red. I can't figure out how to make the printer just use black for the objects that can be printed with only black ink. What I have had to do is print my labels without the red object and select grayscale on the printer preferences and then run them through again with just the Red object. The ink cost per label goes from $.06 to$.0125 - almost a nickel a label. I print a lot of labels, so that is a significant amount. It seems like there would be a way to do that with CorelDraw - just tell it to only use black ink for everything but the Red object.
Hi Breauxlg,
I don't have a solution to your problem. Much will depend on your printer, whether it accepts CMYK files, and what profiles are available for it.
However, here is the most likely cause:
1. Your printer only accepts RGB files.
2. The inks are CMYK.
3. The printer profile converts this file to CMYK.
4. RGB black gets converted to a mix of all colors. Black itself is only a portion of this mix.
Here is what happened in Photopaint when converting RGB black to CMYK black.Phil
Let me add a comment which may or not be significant to what you are printing.
1. If you are saving that much money on ink, I would guess that the printer is only using the black ink cartridge when set to grayscale.2. The black ink in CMYK is somewhat translucent.3. Thus (0, 0, 0, 100) does not print as totally black. All inks are required to get pitch black.4. RGB black ink cartridges are available for some printers which would give you total black.
5. I have no idea if this would save any money; if it can be done with your printer; or if it is of any importance to your images.
Anyway, here's the difference as produced by Photopaint.Phil
Are these check boxes checked, top default color management dialog, (try checking the preserve pure black) , bottom printer dialog color tab
Not sure if that will work but if not try using K of CMYK and for grays a percentage of K of CMYK for grays in your files.
