Hi-I've been making a repeat pattern by tiling a design: Working in a 4in square for the tiles.I group my objects, place a no-outline no-fill 4in square on top of that design. Then use the intersect tool to cut out a clean 4in square tile. With a 4x4in document grid, (snap to grid + snap to object) I ctr C + ctr V then slide the new tiles to 'click' into place along the grid - horizontally and vertically - until I have the desired size of my repeat pattern for printing. It worked perfectly for 2 weeks, the object outlines of each new tile fitting perfectly with its neighbours. And now they don't, they're out by a tiny gap on almost all the object out lines on all sides. I've tested my earlier patterns within their original docs and they all work, but the newest documents don't, and I'm baffled as to why not. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't changed anything. I lie, I added a fill to the objects but initially that didn't prove a problem either. Any ideas? I'm a bit desperate now as my print deadline is looming. Thanks!
I tried this using some of the "uncut" pictures from the files you uploaded. I don't know exactly how you did the alignment of the artwork, but here's how I did it.
Started with a 4.5" x 4.5 " rectangle, then positioned images on the top and left edges:
Selected the two pictures on the top edge, then used the Transformations Docker (Position) to create one copy with X = 0, Y = -4.5 relative to the original position.
Same thing for the two pictures on the left edge, but with X = 4.5, Y = 0 relative.
Grouped the pictures. With them selected, used the Crop tool, with Snap to Objects active to pick up the corner nodes of the rectangle. Deleted the rectangle.
When tiled, things line up just fine on all of the pictures.
Your Snap to Document Grid approach works fine. Another easy way to quickly lay out an array of tiles is to again use the Transformations Docker (Position), specifying multiple copies. Two operations, and you have a rectangular array of tiles.
I'm glad to hear that this solved your problem!
Honestly, I only have real familiarity with a modest fraction of the tools in CorelDRAW - but the Transformations docker and I go way back.
I was using the x-y axis in the top bar but to use it in the Transformation tool goes one better: no chopped up objects. I look at it now and it seems so obvious but you're right, a fresh pair of eyes always does the trick. I'm still grateful today.[:D]
