Hi, John! I am a speech/language therapist (working with 3-5 years olds) and I use Corel Draw and PhotoPaint almost every day. I use it, along with clipart, photos & photo objects, to produce vocabulary cards, therapy materials, story books, games and activities. I have been using Corel products since CorelDraw 3.

Hi Karen in St. Louis!
Your applications of CorelDRAW and PhotoPAINT with speech and language therapy are very interesting. Why did you turn to CorelDRAW Graphics Suite to help you produce your teaching aides instead of products on the market?
Kind regards,
Shawn Leblanc Sr. Education Manager Corel Corporation
Hi, Shawn! I haven't checked this thread for a while, sorry for taking so long to reply. I was initially drawn to CorelDraw because it had a less costly academic version and included clipart. I didn't really know what other products were available at that point. I continue to use it because I like the interface, even after in the newer versions it seems familiar. I am a long way from using or understanding all the functions, but it serves my purposes. There are probably simpler products available, but the academic version is inexpensive and allows me to upgrade to the latest versions, and I know it is capable of doing what I need plus anything more complicated that I want to learn.
I also use PhotoPaint frequently for photos I've taken at school. I cut out the background on many of the shots to simplify the picture for language impaired preschoolers and children with autism, it helps them understand what part of the picture is important.

I'm an ESL teacher in Japan and have been using CorelDRAW Essentials (CorelDRAW 9) for about 5 years now to help make worksheets for my classes. I also make lots of game grids. I like that I can save the files as pdfs so other teachers can use the stuff I create in their classes.
I've recently been thinking of moving to a newer version. Bitmap to vector graphics conversion is one thing that seems useful to me. I just wonder about a couple of things: do newer versions of CorelDRAW have a table creation tool (like Corel Print House 4 which I also use) and is there Japanese language support?
I have done a search online for CorelDraw and Unicode, but nothing turns up that suggests CorelDRAW can handle Japanese text. I know there is a Japanese version of the program, but I want a clear answer that the English version can also support Japanese text.
Thanks.

お早うございます,
The current version of CorelDRAW (X4) fully supports unicode. From a product perspective, there is no difference between the English version and the localized version (same engine). The difference is simply in the language of the UI and of the documentation. SP1 has addressed some specific issues for asian languages and will be included in the upcoming asian languages versions later this year.

Hi southsidejohnny,
Our latest version, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4, includes a new table tool that I think you'll like. As Gérard mentioned, We have not launched our Asian languages yet, but you can try out the English trial version free of charge (http://corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1191272117978#tabview=tab0) to get a feel for the new version.
Cheers!
Thanks for the replies. I may just download the trial version and give it spin.
