Does X4 work without hitches on Windows 7 32bit?
I see a post where some are having issue with 64 bit.
I'm converting my PC to Win 7 but don't want to install programs that don't work.
regards
So far after week's experience:
+ X4 works generally very fast and precise with win7 / 64 bit
- scrapbook doesn't work right, impossible to save
- one measurement changed it values after opening the file again
- bitstream font nav doesn't work right...installing fonts through that didn't work

HI.
Vista has really come a long way to be a stable OS. It has a bad rep from the initial start, but it really is a good OS now.

I decided to stay 32 bit, 7 pro and love it.
I'm about to clean my late model Toshiba laptop and install 7 Pro on that too.Vista has become a monster for me. After a few of those wonderful updates it decided to play up. Windows offered a patch that wasn't guaranteed so I gave that a wide berth.
George I just have too much at stake with some older gear (GPS egs) that I can't be without. Trimble and likes don't offer support for that old stuff!!Thanks for all replies.RegardsRichard

Glad to hear you love it.My reason for going to 64 bit when windows 7 came out, and I use Windows 7 PRO 64 bit, with both X4 and X5 running on it, both CorelDRAW and Photo-Paint - is the RAM Memory.Spead is not entirely about RAM memory I know that, but to be able to use more than 3 GB of RAM on any Windows computer you simply have to use a 64 bit operating system. No bull just fact. Now there are several parameters concerning 32 vs 64 bit, but one main but not only thing is the very fact about RAM memory.
So in conclusion if any saleperson out there sells you a 32 bit COMPUTER with a 32 windows OS you will NOT be able to use more than 3 GB of RAM.
You need a 64 bit computer.A 64 bit (windows) OS
If you have a 64 bit program such as Photoshop 64 bit installed on a 32 bit computer/OS then you will still only use a 32 bit capability. Basically. If you have a 64 bit computer/OS and a 32 bit program such as CorelDRAW you will still only use 32 bit "speed". But and here is the good part with new CorelDRAW & Photo-Paint X5 vs X4 is that X5 is 64 bit compatible. Its NOT a 64 bit program but more in tune with 64 bit OS.
Like Hugh I use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7 PRO 64 bit to run my older Canon scanner, which doesnt have a driver for win 7.
I think X5 works great on my 64 bit computer with Win 7 PRO 64 bit. Just see to that you install the service pack 1. In the future release of the OS coming AFTER Win 7, its talks about making it 128 bit os, but there are several years before that is entirely reliable or even out on the market. Which it isnt for the moment as it is simply talks.
Hi.
Here's an interesting page regarding Ram limitations.
