Vector Police Badges?

Heya everyone,

Does anyone happen to know if there is somewhere online where I can find pre-made vector versions of police badges?  Or would I just have to recreate the one that I have?  The problem I have is the scans that I have are low res that I can't see details to work from.

Thanks again,  Geeked
Matt

    • HI.

There's so many variations because each dept puts there own twist on it. You'll most likely have to vectorize it.

If you post here we can give tips and someone might even take up the challenge.

This is the badge type that i'm hoping to vectorize.  I'm kind of having trouble seeing the details of the leafs and the feathers of the eagle to work from.

        • Hello Matt; Here is one I done for a county ploce here in Va. It's in CDR if it will help you I'd be glad to email it to you. The badge you are showing would be a night mare to traceIck!

Okey, there are several ways to solve this, question is if the client is ready to pay for the time consuming work. Many hours.

              The leaves
If you dont have vectorized leaves to use and put together then one thing is, and here comes the time consuming work part 1 ( I wont go in to Part 2, part 3, part 4...), open the image in PHOTO-PAINT and draw the outlines with a wacom pen, all the leaves and all those details by hand with a wacom pen tablet. Create a new object on top of this image and carefully draw the leaves and ornaments.

I have made this detailed work myself drawn from scratch and then converted to vector. But its time consuming, and you should not expect TRACE to do all trace for you in one go. This can take time. But its doable. I have done it myself. But you should see it as a combo of DRAW and PP.

              • Matt......

There is a young man in Mansfield, Texas that changes drawings and clipart to vector art.  His name is Aubrey and his company email address is logofax@logofax.com and his phone # is 817.572.0141.  He is very good with detailed graphics.  His prices are very reasonable.  you might want to contact him.  I have used him for detailed drawings.  Good luck.

                • (I apologize.  I forgot to update everyone on this project.)

This project fizzled out and they decided not to do the project.  This customer sometimes comes and gives me all these ideas that they want to do and then their bosses sh!+-can the project when we are in the middle of working on it.

Thanks for everyones help & advice,
                  Matt

One quick question -- why do you need a vector version of the badge?  As George (TheSignGuy) said, it is a big undertaking (I have it at over 22, 600 parts) .

                • It's for our local Nebraska Game & Parks Commission.  (They don't have a graphic arts dept that can whip up that badge in the layout we need.)  The badge pic that I uploaded is the specific badge that they are wanting for a sign.

Sorry if I described what I was looking for wrong.  I don't want you guys to go through the trouble of vectorizing it for me.  I just had oped that maybe there were existing vector files that I could see the badge better.  You can see that it's hard to see the details of the eagle feathers & leafs because of the chrome shine.  I can vectorize it myself.  But i'd be making alot of (not so) educated guesses on the details with what iv'e got.

                  • Hi.

Yea. That's gonna be a real toughy.

I'd ask the customer if he has anything else you can look at before you spend hours on that. Maybe a letterhead, business card, poster, etc.

                    • The middle part is on Wikipedia as a SVG.
                      http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/60/Nebraska-StateSeal.svg

The eagle is from the Utah State flag. There are some cheesy vectors of
it but there are also some better images of it online that you could use
to create your vector from. The floral swirls are going to be the tough
part but you might be able to use some online floral designs to get
                      started with it.

                      • I have attached a generic badge we use here at work:

                        generic badge.cdr
                        • But of course, if the layout has to be shape specific, it won't be much help -- but you can still have it if you want. Wink

                          • Hello Again Matt; It took me 2 weeks to get the rights to use the state seal for one of there on police department. for police cars. You may be able to contact the state and get a vector drawing of the seal. Another thought is get a good raster drawing and get it printed on vinyl.

                        • Will something like this work?

I have included the .CDR file as well.
