I am new - new to CorelDraw, new to DecoStudio, new to Smart Designer, new to the industry. Please pardon me, but please tell me, if this newbie question is way off.
It is my understanding that DecoStudio does not come with latest (sp2) of CorelDraw x4. In order to install Smart Designer, I need to install sp2. BUT - I keep getting the following error message:
"The update patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be updated may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."
CorelDraw x4 exists on my computer. The full version comes with DecoStudio - right? I can open it and run it.... I downloaded sp2 directly from the Corel web page, so I don't see how I could have an incorrect upgrade patch. Help? Please?
Welcome to coreldraw.com!
Wilcom DecoStudio e1.5 installs CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 as a full version, that's correct.Depending on when you purchased DecoStudio e1.5 you might have CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 SP2 installed with it already.
The easiest way to check that will be starting CorelDRAW X4 (standalone from the Start menu) and go to Help > About CorelDRAW...If it says Version 14.0.0.701 you have SP2 installed.
If not you should be able to start the update directly from within CorelDRAW > Help > Updates...
Best regards,Klaus.
WOW - Now I REALLY have problems!!
I verified that Corel Draw x4 sp2 is not installed on my desktop. I launched CorelDraw x4 from the Start menu and went to Help ... About CorelDraw. It says version 14.0.0.651.
I downloaded Corel Draw x4 sp2. I have no internet connection on my desktop, so I downloaded it to my usb drive on my laptop and loaded it via usb drive onto my desktop. It loaded without incident.
I opened CorelDraw x4 to ensure that it indicated sp2 installed (14.0.0.701) before beginning my next download (Smart Designer). Again, I launched CorelDraw x4 from the Start menu. Almost immediately a screen popped up. This screen was labeled: "Welcome to the Application Recovery Manager Wizard" and it contained the following error message: "The application you are using has become unstable. This wizard will guide you through a series of steps to help resolve this problem. You will be given the option to save your documents and close the application. As well, you can send a report to Corel documenting this problem in order that we may better serve you." I clicked Next. The next screen offered the following options: Exit without Saving Documents OR Continue Working.
I tried exiting without saving (after all, there was nothing to save). It exited. So I relaunched CorelDraw x4.. Same box & same message. I tried "continue to work." Nothing. I rebooted the computer and tried again. Same box & same message. I reloaded sp2. Went through all the same steps; got all the same responses.
Frustration had set in - but Here's when I really lost it: I opened DecoStudio and discovered that it will not allow me to access CorelDraw x4. No graphics! It was there before (remember - I opened CorelDraw x4 independently before I started down this road -- and I've been working in DecoStudio & accessing CorelDraw x4 via Deco all morning.) The whole thing is gone?! I can't even continue the embroidery side of my business while I figure this out!
I contacted Digital Art Solutions (Smart Designer) and they are working on it - but we agree that at this point (haven't even started loading their software yet), this is a Corel issue. I tried to call Corel - they closed 3 min prior to my placing the call.
I'm so frustrated that I'm reduced to tears. Time for a drink - except that I have orders to get out - except that I'm limited to deco without draw (not going to get much accomplished like that!).... HELP?!
When talking to Digital Art Solutions, did they suggest starting CorelDRAW X4 with resetting the workspace to default? This would be the 1st recommendation when there is an issue during application startup. While starting CorelDRAW (using Start menu > Programs > CorelDRAW X4) press and hold the F8 key. A message box should appear that asks for confirmation to reset to default settings.
DecoStudio not providing the CorelDRAW mode (Graphics Mode) is probably caused by the same issue (CorelDRAW not starting up properly) which might be resolved at the same time.
Regards,Klaus.
DAS did not make that suggestion, but thank you for making it. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
In case anyone else is looking for answers, DAS advised me to uninstall any previous versions of Corel. Then, from Control Panel, Add/Remove programs - choose CorelDrawx4 and choose remove. This brought up a screen allowing me to choose an option call "Repair". This didn't work for me, but maybe it will work for someone else.
In the meantime, I got ahold of Wilcom (DecoStudio) today and they are sending me a disk which includes Draw X4 with sp2 and Deco all together. So - tomorrow morning I will be uninstalling and reinstalling.... Wish me luck!
THANK YOU for your patience and attention. I appreciate your help.
