Hi,
im having a problem with my corel crashing when im about to save a file. The saving process just starts ticking in the background but never finishes or i get an error message saying "program stopped working".
I do succeed sometimes with saving as a pdf, but when trying to open that file, it fails and says its corrupted.
I´ve tried reinstalling corel x6 via CD and updating to latest update but nothing works.
Any ideas?
Running Windows 7 64bit
Thanks in advance!
Start by emptying the %temp% folder, which can easily be done immediately after a reboot -- or you can use a program like cCleaner to do it.
Also, try saving to a local folder rather than a removable or remote drive and if necessary disable antivirus checking on that folder.
If that does not work, you should probably try the F8 settings reset. Close CorelDraw, hold the F8 key and start CorelDraw using the mouse. Keep F8 down until you see a message confirming the reset.
Thank you for your answer!
i tried all of the above but it still doesnt work. I´ve also tried installing new drivers for graphic card etc. Not working.
Doesnt seem like there is a solution to this problem, since i´ve read other threads with the same problem :/
Does this apply to all files, no matter how simple?
For example, try creating a completely new file in X6, add a simple rectangle and try to save it. Does that work?
If it does, then it could relate to something that is in your file -- in which case, it would be useful if you could find a non-confidential file you cannot save and put it on dropbox or similar, with a link so that others can test it.
sadly it goes for all files. If i create a new document with only a rectangle in it, that file will also get corrupted when saved or Corel will crash when i try to save.
Is this your own machine, or a company machine?
A company machine might possibly be set up with limited rights in the folder where you are saving. But you do need full rights to the folder where you save your files -- you must be able to write, rename and delete the files there.
The same could possibly apply to a home machine, if it was set up for more than one user and you are not the user that originally created the folder.
its a company machine, and my current user should have fullrights to write, rename and delete files in all folders. I´ve also tried saving in different folders.
* really appreciating the help!
Probably next is to find the CorelDraw icon -- probably in "c:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6\Programs64\" or "c:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6\Programs64\"
Right click on it and select "run as administrator". If you are now able to save files, then it is likely to be something about the user account or configuration. If you still have the problem, then it is something more general.
I just realised I missed an obvious check that you could make.
In tools > options > global there is an option enable background tasks which is usually on by default. Its purpose is to speed up work, by letting you continue working as soon as the save has started.
It works well on most computers, but there are some that do not like it -- so you should try making a save with that option off.
i did not have the "run as administrator" option and unchecking the box in global settings didnt help either. I have notice thou that after im saving a document and then reopen it, the color palette to the right in corel draw x6 seems to change and alot of colors dissapear. (dont know if that says anything tho..)
The palette problem has only been reported recently and X6 has not been updated for several months so its likely to be caused by an update to either windows or another program. Somebody thought it was itunes, but that might have been just coincidence. The reason hasn't been confirmed, but at least three people have mentioned it recently.
Is this a new X6 installation, or has X6 worked before and suddenly changed?
I see. Its an old installation that i´ve worked with for over a year w/o problems. Now that you mention it, the problem did not start befor i updated itunes and iCloud was added to my computer. Probably a coincidence but ill try deleting that!
