I'm having problems backwards saving some files [all text] to X5
It tells me the font Arial amongst others is is an open type font and features are not supported in previous versions.
I'm not sure what that means other than a file I sent to someone had issues with it.
Is there a work round or any thing I can do to help for the future?
When you were informed of the incompatibility, you should have been given the choice to keep the X5 version editable and lose some accuracy, or to convert to curves preserving accuracy but losing editability. Those are not the exact words, but you have to make a choice between accuracy of the result and editability.
It is not possible to preserve both in the same file, if the X7 file uses features that did not exist in the earlier version -- though it may be worth trying a save that keeps the file editable.
In many cases, the worst that you will notice is that paragraphs wrap slightly differently, but this needs to be checked very carefully because the result can be that the final line of the paragraph extends below the bottom of the text frame and therefore does not print.
Thanks Harry - I am using X6
I tried with numerous fonts and found the same message on save every time.
Does it happen with all fonts? Or am I unlucky with the ones I chose? It's a right pain 2 companies I use for printing that use CDR both have version X5.
X6 to X5 will be almost the same. The main change in text capability was between X5 and X6.
Can your printer also accept PDF files? Publishing to PDF would eliminate the problem.
If the X5 CDR file is only for printing, then you can choose the option that preserves appearance, which will convert any text that would change into curves. But make sure that you keep your X6 version too, for future editing.
