RGB to CMYK in Corel Photo-Paint?

I need to convert image from RGB to CMYK: Black Ink Limit 80%, C+M+Y+K < 280%. In Adobe Photoshop I'm using "Convert to Profile > Custom CMYK". In Photo-Paint I'm using "Export soft proof..." to control conversion, but there is no possibility to set parameters of ink limit.

How to make something like "Custom CMYK" in Corel Photo-Paint?

  • Hi Dmitry,

you cannot create the custom conversion you illustrate above, but if you have a proper profile containing the conversion you require, then you can convert to that profile. In Photoshop it says the conversion you are speaking of will not be colour managed. In Photo-Paint (or Photoshop) converting a to custom ICC Profile will be a colour managed conversion.

    Best regards,
    Brian.

This is all academic, simply convert to CMYK using U.S. web coated swop and edit the tone curve (all channels) up.

Create a black object R0 G0 B0 then convert it to an Adobe RGB image, then you can set your CMYK profile to different profiles and read the result in th eeyedropper tool.  When you find a TIC 280 CMYK profile use it for all those conversions.

I would simplyu use a WEB uncoated.

      • All thanks! Now I precisely know that such possibility isn't present in Photo-Paint.
Probably it's academic, but I find it useful. :)

        • There are no tools in CGS applications to edit or create color profiles. However, you can use custom color profiles you have created by other tools. After you created custom CMYK color profile in Adobe Photoshop you can use Save CMYK... command there to save it to disk. Then you can use PhotoPaint X5 Tools/Color Management/Document Color Settings dialog, "Convert document colors to a new color profile" option, select "Load color profile..." from the profile selection list to use this custom CMYK color profile for CMYK->CMYK conversions. If your PP5 document is not yet CMYK, you would need to load custom CMYK color profile in Tools/Color Management/Default Settings dialog, as default color profiles are used when you need to change a color model of the document ( e.g. from RGB to CMYK, etc ).

I agree with David though, this is somewhat academic use of CM capabilities and more a workaround for tonal curves manipulation. Even in Photoshop this functionality is a blast from the past, however I would admit it still can be handy in some situations.

          • I know about profiles. But often there is only condition of TIL (Black Ink limit, C+M+Y+K). And Photoshop "Custom CMYK" is very useful - just input two numbers and can adjust image, don't thinking about problem with TIL.

            • Ok the way to make this bullet proof is to simply use a CMYK profile in CD that is any of the commercial uncoated CMYK profiles.  Conver to that and all is well,
