Issues with greyed options

My computer crashed so I am reinstalling all my software on a new system.  Windows 8 and CorelDrawX5 suite.  After installation I  get a message regarding compatibility issues.  I can only choose run with issues.  Once I open Corel Draw X5 most of the options are greyed out--i.e. print, cut, paste, copy, save, export etc.. I have uninstalled, reinstalled and still no help.  Any suggestions?

  • X5 usually needs to be run in XP or windows 7 compatibility mode. This used to be easily done by running the XP mode that microsoft realeased, but I understand this is no longer available for windows 8.

I'm not sure if windows 8 can do this, but find the programs folder (probably C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X7\Programs or C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X7\Programs64), right click on coreldrw.exe, go to properties and see if you have a compatibility tab. If you do, try setting it to either XP or windows 7 compatibility.

Repeat for corelPP.exe which should be in the same folder.
