Trying to open files created on X7 no more than a year ago, and X8 crashes because of missing fonts which actually are not missing.
We also have a font issue (only 11 fonts showing), maybe also leading to X8 not opening X7 files at all. The new font manager is excruciatingly slow as well. Really hope a fix will comes out soon. If even one person in the company can't run X8, we all have to revert to X7.
How are your font filters set in CorelDraw?
Hi there folks, thanks for the interest.
The issues are different for the two PCs, so I'll split the screenshots:
PC1Corel X8 runs, but font navigation is much slower than in X7. When you click on the font dropdown, it takes about 6 seconds to appear, and font flyouts (bold, italic etc) take 2 seconds to appear. 747 fonts installed, about 16k fonts not installed, but filtered out as well. X7 files take a while to load, but they open just fine.
PC2
Corel X8 can be installed and runs, but font Manager only shows 11 fonts no matter what font options are selected, and NO X7 files can be opened (The font service just keeps running in the background but the file never opens). When you click on the font dropdown, it still takes about 6 seconds to appear, and font flyouts (bold, italic etc) take 2 seconds to appear. Don't judge the PC specs too harshly, we've been begging the boss for a new rig for years!!!
We are aware of both issues and are working on them.
For the 11 fonts issues, you can try uninstallating all Type1 fonts and reinstalling them through CFM assuming it is then working. Sometime however, manual registry cleaning is required. You can achieve that by creating a .reg file (this is a .txt file with a .reg extension) with the following 3 lines :
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Type 1 Installer\Type 1 Fonts]
Then you double click on it to apply the changes to the registry. (you need to be admin)
This will clean it and the 11 fonts issue will be gone. You will not loose any files doing that. Then, CFM should be able to run and discover the Type1 fonts that were installed in the C:\windows\font folder.
For the performance issue : there is nothing you can do. We know about it and are working on improving it. We did not discover it before we shipped because it is specific to some types of hard drive. Well, technically, if you had another hard drive on those system, you could trick CDGS app into using it for the FontDatabase using a junction point (mklink /J) from the "C:\Users\[YOU]\AppData\Roaming\Corel\FontDatabase" folder on a folder on another drive. But that is super geeky and it might not even work if the other drive has the same characteristics.
For the crash when Panose shows up : That, I haven't seen yet. It could be related to the other two but i'm not sure. Panose is probably showing up because you are opening an older file in which the font technology was missidentified. I could use a crash dump to see why it crashed. When you see the crash dialog, go in Task manager, right click on draw and choose "Create Dump File". Then put it on the web somewhere so that I can download it.
