How do I dimple a recess into a surface?

Hi Everyone.

I am running out of evaluation time with CorelCAD (4 days left) but I've just added another challenge to my Murphy's Law Alclad Plate. This time I have put a lightening (weight reducing) hole into the plate after I have dimpled the recess. But I couldn't figure out how the Impress in CorelCAD could dimple like the way I have done it in TurboCAD. So I have attached the DWG file.

(BTW, in TurboCAD you have to align the workplane with the face of the solid to be dimpled else the dimpling tool is greyed out. You draw the 2D shape on the face of it, then select the dimpling tool and you have to specify the dimpling height. It then dimples out the hole racetrack shape I have drawn to the specified depth (subject to material necking in real life - you cannot dimple without cost)).

If you view the completed plate with the dimple and hole in Rendering you get a better idea of the finished effect.

Does anyone know how to make a dimpled recess like this in CorelCAD?

And just to add a further challenge, does anyone know how to make a dimple with any chosen sidewall angle?

To make an accurate shape like this in CorelCAD?

I'd probably say that you'd write it in autolisp to speed it up ( especially if you were doing it a lot, and I suspect you will ) - but the process is the same.

1. Have a pre-set thickness of the material.
2. Determine the shape ( round, racetrack, abnormal, etc ).
3.Determine the radius/sizes of the hole, etc.
4. Cut the hole from the plate.
5. Draw a cross-section of the dimple surface, with appropriate curves ( eg, calculate for radius of the two bends, plus overhang, plus depth of dimple ).
6. Extrude this cross-section along straight sections, and rotate it around round sections.
7. Union all the parts from (6) and union with the original plate.

This is a roundabout way, but would allow very accurate dimpling based on whatever tool you're using.

If you're printing the part or machining it, use a different technique. The same technique above is useful for different complicated styles also - Dimpling is, as I understand it, a way of punching the plate into shape with a die? ( top and bottom that form the shape? )

Sorry dude but the only way I can think of is to laboriously make spheres and bolean subtract the spheres from the plate, good luck.
