I've upgraded from X6 and Tabs are driving me insane. I drag in any number of images to view and work on them side by side. What do I need? - auto-resizing, floating windows and all the real estate I can muster.
1) Sure, open images using Open or Open Recent... and if the Option is set to "Open documents in floating window" they will open in floating windows, but drag them in from Windows Explorer and they tab. Can we have consistency here? Better still, can we get rid of tabs?
2) Tabs should be optional. They take up real estate and get in the way of working with multiple images.
3) The snap feature which opens the image to full workspace should also be an option. Why should I have to use Ctrl just to dock windows across the top? Lunacy.
4) no auto-resize of the floating window? Seriously? I mean, seriously? Corel clearly wants me to use tabs, but seriously, no auto-resize of the windows? Really? How many lines of coding must that have saved?
Here's where I'm coming from. I use SolidEdge CAD and when they introduced a revolutionary non-history-based method of creating 3D objects they had the good sense to maintain the old history-based method for those who preferred it. Everybody was happy. Cannot the same be done here and allow floating windows exactly as they were in X6, just for those of us who prefer/need that way of working?
Really, it was an idea from Microsoft, about the compatibilty with Windows 10 capabilities. And yes, at first, it's annoying, but after a while you get used to it and it's familiar. I don't believe they will be back to version 16.0, since we're currently on the version 20.0
Anyway you can undock documents, and leave it floating. Or enlarge to use the entire window.
I guessed the idea was a taken from MS but they had the good grace to allow users to disable it. Corel should do the same. And yes, it is annoying, plain and simple.
Anyhow, why should I have to undock each and every image? I want to get on and work, not waste my time undocking everything. Draw should be becoming MORE productive, not less. I'm not saying you shouldn't have it if you like it, I'm simply asking for the option to get rid of it.
I think you missed the point about Solidedge. There, both means of working were respected. Again, Corel can do this as all the coding for *proper* floating windows already exist. They simply have to add an extra button in Workspace for Floating Windows as X6. Sorry, but "Open documents in floating windows" should mean just that - no tabs, thank you.
The change was done with X7. So, after a few days you'll feel more comfortable with this chage. Of course you did a big step from version 16 (X6) to 20 (2018) but who did the change on each version, now it's natural and easy. As always, Ctrl+Tab allows to navigate from one document to another, and Ctrl+Shift+Tab allows to navigate on reverse order (yes, the same than Google Chrome, Photoshop or any other).
Ariel, I have used it for a few weeks now. Sorry, but it just gets more and more and more irritating. I just want to open up and get on with work.
I have always stepped up in fours, starting with version 4, then 8, then 12, then 16 and now 20 (sorry, my version numbers). Changes have been incremental and not always welcomed, but I got used to them. That won't happen here. This is a revolutionary change. Look at it this way, if you're into show dogs, you're not going to stick with your favourite kennels if they suddenly deliver you a mongrel with three legs and a message to give the pooch a go, you'll get used to it. No. It has to do the job required.
As for using hot keys to navigate the tabs, you've sadly missed the point. I want to see a number of images at the same time. Maybe the question should be asked of you, Ariel - how would you do that with tabs and non-autoresize?
