text exported to illustrator

Hi

I've recently had to export a coreldraw file (2018) to Adobe Illustrator for a new customer. Even though I religiously check the Export text as Text option the exported text in the file consistently comes out as individual objects (curves). Please help - other aspects of the file seem OK but there's a lot of text and it's making it almost impossible to edit in Illustrator.
