Here are two images the first was a cropped original that after cropping had some distraction because of conflicting saturation points the second image has that fixed.
Making the mask took about 15 seconds. The problem is that the background took your eye from the moth.
It sounds like you did a great job addressing the issue with the background! By fixing the saturation points, you managed to keep the focus on the moth, which is fantastic.
