After all these years and updates, CorelPP STILL does not support text borders/stroke?? I just don't understand why not. Every version I keep hoping, but always get dissappointed. Now X4 comes along and still nothing. Photoshop has supported this feature for years, but why can't Corel keep up? It seems to me that they focus all their efforts on CorelDRAW and for CorelPHOTO-PAINT, they just go in and change the icons and call it a day. Maybe I'm missing something and just can't find this feature hidden somewhere (wishful thinking, I'm sure)??
For a few years now to simulate this effect I have to go into DRAW and create a text object with a border. Then copy it. Go into Photo-Paint and create another text object. Then paste the DRAW text object into the PP text object and see how it looks. If the border is too thick or too thin, then i have to start all over again. But if the border is good, then at least i have the ability to alter the letters in the text while still keeping the effect which is good. But it seems to me that if I can mimick the effect in PP, why can't Corel simply implement it into the software fully and give us the ability to change the border thickness and color right there within PP?
Don't get me wrong, I love the Corel products and prefer them over Photoshop and Illustrator, but I wish that Corel would listen to its customers and fix the current problems and if at all possible, match many of the features of the Adobe counterparts.
What do you guys think?
Ok, so it was a little exhaggerated for me to say that all they do is change the icons, but when you compare the new features between DRAW and PP, you can clearly see which one got more attention. And this happens on nearly every single release of the product since I can remember (I've been using the Corel Suite since version 6.0).
I realize that we need to speak up as a group for Corel to hear us, but for things like text borders, this should have been implemented about 4 versions back! I would love to hear how many people who actually use PP frequently ever wanted to give their text a simple outline and realize that they can't. And then you scratch your head and say, "but you can do it in DRAW, why not PP?". And yes, I realize that they are 2 different animals in the sense tha one is vector and the other is raster based graphics, but the need and possiblity is still there. I remember seeing this simple feature available in Adobe Photoshop back around version 6 or 7 (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Adobe is Corel's direct competitor, so shouldn't Corel be watching what the competition is doing?
Believe me, I'm not this angry person just bashing Corel. It's quite the opposite. I love the Corel products and just want to see them succeed. It just frightens me that with every release, they are getting left farther and farther behind Adobe.
Corel, please don't make me switch to from CorelPHOTO-PAINT to Adobe Photoshop...please!
There is some really basic stuff that needs to be fixed. And some of what was attempted only went part of the way.
All of which is a bit of a shame as PP does do a couple of things better then PS. But not enough things!
The interface with Draw and the fact that every edit (OLE) causes a separate session to start is just tragic. There is quite a list!
Please SCREAM ABOUT IT, TYPE IN ALL CAPS IF THAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER. You won't get any disagreement from anyone in here. PP lets the team down. If it's not brought up to speed fast then we are better served by improved integration with Photoshop. Which maybe should be done in any case.
I read the 3/4 report and Corel doubled the sales of CGS since last year. It's their flagship product. And PP is the dog being towed by the ship. It's the life raft that is too small to hold the passengers.

Well, I'm very glad to hear that I'm not the only one that feels this way about PP. I've always searched the internet and forums looking for solutions to different problems that I have in PP, but usually never find any. I only see posts and articles about DRAW. So it made me think that basically no one really uses PP, therefore they have no issues.
I hate to say it, but I may have to begin my transition to Photoshop because I know for a fact that we're going to wait another 2 years for X5 to come along and all we're going to get are 1 or 2 useless tool enhancements and a new set of icons for PP.
Hi Concept,
When I was starting out I learned PP faster/better than Draw because I had a book for it to go through features.
Later on, I came to love the flexibility of Draw for creating web components. I've built about 20 sites now. I think that if you were more comfortable with Draw, you wouldn't look back. I still use and love PP too, but for my own sanity I use each program for their strengths. They are the perfect team.
Re: software.. I could create digital artwork for the rest of my career with Draw 9 - about 10 years old - and survive. If you leave and move to Adobe's latest, I can't think you'd be any better off.

As suggested by other users, I'm attaching a screenshot of what I'm talking about. Now that I think of it, maybe I should've referred to the text border/stroke as "outline" instead...but I figured most people in the industry would know what I'm talking about. In the first screenshot I have PP with a "Sample" text and the next screenshot is DRAW with the same sample text but with a border/stroke/outline. THIS is what I'd like to accomplish in PP. One would think it would be a simple enough feature. Hopefully this screenshot will clear up any confusion.
Note: Yes, the screenshots are using X3 just because it is what I currently had installed on my other computer. I have installed X4 already and there is still no such feature available.
There's a way to achieve what you want, but it doesn't always produce very good results.

And that's exactly what I mean. 8 steps to simply achieve a static outline effect? Not very efficient, don't you think? We need a dynamic text outline where we can edit that text at any time while still retaining the outline properties. I hope you're listening, Corel!
If you copy outlined text from CD into a text object in PP it keeps its outline properties:
If you have both programmes open that takes two steps - and CD and PP are meant to work together as part of a suite.
Well I guess this is why Corel will never implement this feature into PP because everyone is willing to use workarounds rather than ask for the feature to be implemented within one single product instead of having to use 2 different ones simultaneously. If you've noticed in my original post, I had mentioned that I already use the technique you mentioned:

So you can achieve the outlines in PP to an extent by copying the vector object from DRAW, but if you need to tweak the thickness of that outline, you then have to start the process all over again. Am I crazy for requesting such a feature? I feel like I'm being attacked for such a simple request.
