Text editing in CorelDraw X4

Hello!

I'm having a problem with editing text in CorelDraw X4. The problem seems straightforward: I can add text but as soon as I try to use the 'text tool' to edit it, the text disappears! It's still there, because I can select it and edit it, but I just can't see what I'm selecting/editing! When I select the 'pick tool' again, the text reappears! Cutting&pasting also makes it reappear.

I'm used to using X3 - this glitch on X4 is driving me nuts.

Anybody?

  • To edit the text, you need to do one of two things, after using the pick tool to select the text that is to be edited:

    1.  From the menu, click on Text->Edit Text... or

    2. While holding down the Ctrl & Shift keys, press the 'T' key.

Either method will bring up the Text editing dialog box.

    • I've seen this but only with certain drivers on certain video cards.  Try updating your video card drivers to the latest version, hopefully that solves the problem.

      Regards,
      Hendrik

    • 3 separate ideas:

      1. maybe your default color for text is white?

      2. press CTRL+W after making text to refresh screen. Does it appear?

      3. turn off live text in X4 using this tip

        • One final suggestion: Make sure you are not typing on a Guides Layer. If you are typing onto a Guides layer then if Guidelines are set to be visible your text will have a blue outline, otherwise your text will totally vanish when deselected.

Take a look in the Object Manager to see what layer your text is on.

          Best regards,
