Hi,
Greetings to everyone.
I have a peculiar problem with coreldraw x4. My friend had sent me a word document with the Hindi Mangal Unicode font, and he had asked me to manipulate it. I downloaded the trial version and began to start working on it.
But the problem is that copying and pasting in word documents works fine, but when i copy fron word and paste it in CorelDraw X4 some glyphs and characters are jumbled / incorrect.
Could some one please help me on this issue.
Regards,
Sakthivel
Hi
There are still some areas in Unicode especially double byte fonts like Devnagari, Chinese etc. where Corel lacks. The issue has been forwarded to Corelians and hope to have it solved in X5.

There's also the option of exporting as PDF from Word (exporting the text as curves, if that's possible from within Word) and importing or opening the PDF inside Draw. The characters won't be editable as text, but at least you could have no character errors and you could still edit the shapes of the letters or their position in the page.
I use PDFCreator to create PDFs to import in DRAW. However its not convenient always. Any minor changes required in layout is not possible in DRAW as I get the text as graphics (Converted to Curves.)

Hi Anand, does your text automatically get converted to curves? Of course Draw asks first if to import in text or curves.
But in my case whatever option I select I just can't get the text via PDF from Word in any form. Probably my fonts are toooooo complex for draw as compared to Dewanagri fonts.
Hi Aleem
When I use PDFCreator, it does not convert my fonts to curves. I have to choose import as curves while importing in DRAW.

What wrong you get when you import ? Are the characters (Now as curves) get crumpled or do not appear at all ? If this is the case, I had similar issues. If I remember well, "subset the font to 100%" setting had solved my issue.

It very much depends on the font. If some of the character mappings are unreadable then you may have problems in using the font. Since I have shifted to 32Bit Win XP, I am having certain issues with particular characters in Devnagari script. I have not found any settings to overcome these issues. These characteers display well but do not print. The workaround I use is to convert the font to curves and every thing is right for output. However I have to remember always not to save the converted file.

Hi Ananad, they've started to appear atleast but in really unusual form, most of the characters are replaced by strange symbols, but they are curves not text. It happens even when I use the simple Arial font for my Urdu text.

I've installed the PDF creator that you earlier provided the link of but I still can't find this option, Screenshot would be handy I guess.
Here's a screenshot from MS Word
And here's the screenshot after importing to draw via PDF creator
I've attached the same MS word file for u to take a look at. And I'd also love to have any of ur Hindi word file to experiment here as well.
Here it is.

I shall get back on the fonts issue later.
Aleem
I downloaded the file and tested on my system. It does the same thing here. And about my Hindi text, I don't use the OpenType/ Unicode fonts for my regional text jobs. I have a separate third party software which is working fine since long (Almost 10 years). I had tried using unicode font but the ligatures are messed up in corel. Entering the text is also a task for me as the keyboard layout of the software I use is different than of Unicode.

Hi Anand, If this is the only reason for u to stay away from the unicodes, then there is a good news for you: Microsoft have created a custom Unicode Keyboard Layout software, in which you can assign ur own keys to the letters. Isn't that cool? If you are interested I can provide the links to you.
And thanks for the screenshot and other info as well.
