Hi,
last week I purchased and installed CorelDraw X4. After I had watched the video tutorials I wanted to try out the preview function in the Windows Explorer which should work with Vista and Windows 7. A double click starts Corel X4 properly, but the preview or the thumbnail function doesn't work (message "no preview available"). Curiously the Corel paint Fotos work in the preview pane. Only cdr-files aren't previewed.
In the scrapbook the cdr files are displayed correctly.
Does anyone has an idea how to activate this preview function?
I thank you very much from German!

Hey Gonzo
I had EXACTLY the same problem, I just fixed it!!!
Try this and let me know how you go cause it just worked for me:
1. Go to your Control Panel then PROGRAMS AND FEATURES (ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS)
2. Select CorelDraw X4 (or whatever version you have) and click
3. Select Modify from Corel's uninstall options window
4. Scroll down to UTILITIES you should notice your "windows shell extension' box un-ticked, go ahead and tick it . Then run thru the rest of the process until it's done. That's it!
That did the trick for me!
Good Luck buddy!

Worked perfectly, Thanks Mate
I use Corel Draw 10. I tried to go follow your suggestion, but there were a few differences in what you must have seen and what I saw in Window 7. There is no ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, there's only an UNINSTALL option. Opening that, there was no "Modify" option. In scrolling down the options, there was a Graphics Utilities listing, but no " "windows shell extension" listed, and clicking any of those boxes would 'remove' that portion of the program. Was clicking on and removing the "windows shell extension" the idea, if that option existed? I've inserted a Snip picture of what I saw in my Corel Uninstall options, regarding Corel Draw, and the Graphics and Utilities.
Am I missing something? Any other suggestions? I appreciate any help, so thank you!

Hi Brett,
thanks for your assistance but I already tried that at least for three times. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me.
It makes me crazy!

No, you aren't. The above mentioned suggestions are applicable for Draw X4 and X5 only.

I don't remember correctly but I think there used to be an option "thumbnail display for cdr files" somewhere during the installation, those thumbnails were very low resolution icons not like these modern high resolution ones.
my suggestion for you is to just wait for awhile. i've had X4 for almost 2 years and it is only recently that .cdr thumbnails suddenly showed up. i don't know why it took so long but now they work. from the beginning though cdr thumbnails would appear one day then become the generic icon the next, back and forth all the time. i finally had to buy ST Thumbnail Explorer which i use all the time now since it displays PDF, AI, CDR, PSD and RIF files really well. what STTE doesn't display very well are CPT files, crashes the software, so i never save to cpt ever.

I've just bought the ST Thumbnail Exporer too. Thanks for the tip on the CPT files!
