Yes,but it is a tedious and somewhat frustrating process.   The below sample took me 10 minutes just for one letter:

Yes, it is possible to eliminate the shadow or the outline, despite giving a little work. If your text contains a few letters (or words) you can do the following:

1. Type text
2. Convert to curves
3. Break apart

Note: There are letters that contours are glued to the main body of the letter. The trick is to do the following:

1. Work in wireframe view
2. Press F10 to select the nodes that are glued
3. Delete the nodes over the perimeter and align with the resource To line

See the attached image, the sample with the letter R. To restore the interior of the letter, select it and press Ctrl + L (to Combine).
