Desktop Layer

Anyone know if there is a way to disable the desktop layer?  Its really bugging me that i cant have stuff stoed off to the side in templates without having a seperate master layer for each set of icons.  My work requires the use of probably 100+ icons so there usually like 15 or more master layers floating around just holding them.

With the new layer system i was thinking just make an icons layer for each page and just have them cycle as you went through the pages, but the desktop layer yanks them off as soon as i move em.  Angry

  • Epicor,

Have you considered creating symbols for the icons? Then they are all
conveniently stored in the Symbols Docker. From there, you can drag and drop
    them wherever they are needed.
    •  Yeah.  and i actually have them all set as symbols for some beta stuff, but its not really working out.  The whole reason for the layers is to seperate the icons in to groups.  Unless there is a way to group the icons into folders or something in the symbol docker that im not aware of...?

    •  I would like to knnow how as well this is the most useless thing layer ever created - There is no need for a desktop as a layer - period.

if you create something off the page then drag it on to the page it auto keeps it on the desktop layer for that page, if you dont notice it - when you go to print - the desktop layer doesnt print by default and things go missing. Please corel get rid of this useless layer there really is no need for it, the desktop work area is supposed to be just that.

        •  I know a lot of people use the desktop layer or it wouldnt exist, but dont you think a toggle switch would be useful for those of us who dont want to automatically changing the contents of our layers?

Same here, "LAYERS WORK FINE AS IS!"

Unfortunately there is no way to please everyones work flow, one might have to adapt to what the software can do and not expect the software to be changed to what one wants to do.

          •  I think i have adapted rather well thank you very much.  And i dont see why you guys are getting so up in arms over this.  I dont want to change the way Draw works for you. i just want to have the option of turning off the feature that moves anything not in page space to the desktop.

Is locking the Desktop layer (click the pencil icon in the Object Manager) what you need?
