Do you use the Touch-up brush and for what?
In the manual it looks like the healing brush, but the reality is that it does - blurs. Is this an idea of the developers, or it simply does not work like Hue/Saturation/Lightness and some other tools?

Basically I think of it as a portable Median tool. I think it was intended to work like PS healing brush, but PS's tool is better IMO.

LOL, this is one of my victims. He attempted to steal some macros...
Looks scary. :)
Hi Dmitry,
as you have discovered, the Retouch Brush in PP is nothing like the Healing Brush in PS. However, ideally I would like both. It most definitely cannot removed a scar like JH has illustrated and cannot even remove a pimple (unless it is tiny). What it can do is remove smaller dots and dust marks, etc. and best of all...what it does FAR better than PS's Healing Brush is remove small marks around the EDGES of faces/objects, and on hair. I will attach a demo image when I get a chance....but try this (if you have PS): find an image where there are some small hairs and dust marks in the hair of your subject. Click on those dots/marks with the Retouch Brush in PP and watch them disappear without even breaking a hair!!! Try that with PS's Healing Brush and watch it mangle the hair. The Healing Brush is lousy around the edges of faces and objects as it is using Intelligent Cloning and this becomes evident near edges when you click to remove a bit of dust from the edge of someone's face (say high up on their jawline) and suddenly the Healing Brush drops a bunch of hairs there! Or try to remove a blob from the edge of someone's nose and suddenly the edge of the nose looks like a bezier curve which has been broken into 2 and the 2 ends moved in slightly different directions.
I honestly believe few people know how to use the Retouch Brush properly. I use it all the time and would hate to lose it...but we definitely need an equivalent tool to the Healing Brush as well. Once again Corel lets us down; they have a perfectly usable Healing Brush in PSP and neglect PP as always. If they know how to make it in PSP they know how to make it in PP, regardless of what programming language they use.
To get the best results from the Retouch Brush you actually use a slightly larger brush than you would expect to use and choose the SOFTEST EDGED brush you can find. It actually works pretty well for the limited uses I mentioned above. It is also great for softening edges....say you made a cutout and the edge is a little harsh and jagged, the Retouch Brush can soften that edge nicely.
Best regards,Brian.
Thank you for your answer, Brian!
As for me, I found only one application of Touch-up brush - removal small dark dots from uniform light background, but this is easily done using Clone Tool.
When I created this topic I was interested to hear your opinions about Touch-up brush, because manual contain illustration, which show how Touch-up brush remove a large scratch from photo without any blurring.
Now I found this link, and here I see that Touch-up brush "officially" works as it works. Positioning Touch-up brush to perform such operations looks strange for me.
I tried another tool on the image you linked us to. I had a go using Image>Correction>Dust & Scratch. Right at the top is the original scratch and below it the final result of using the Dust & Scratch Removal feature. At the bottom is the result of using this feature on a small section of the scratch in a fairly plain area.
As you can see, it is not good enough to fix the whole image and is especially poor around busy areas of an image. It worked quite well in less detailed areas, especially the sky. This tool is really aimed at smaller dust and scratches usually found in scanned images and works very well on those. It also is great for removing power lines in images as long as the background is fairly plain. If you use a combination of Dust & Scratch Removal, Retouch Brush and Cloning you will be able to get a great result and save some time in the process.
You can read mind, Brian. :)I compared work results of this tools. The problem is that not one of the tools available in Photo-Paint not trying to preserve texture, just blurs. They can only be used to remove small defects, so the only tool for retouching images in Photo-Paint is Clone Tool. :(
