How to close the open curve, it fails

I need to close the following curve (curve with 7 nodes, coreldraw says) without changing any angles or changing the size length of any of the sides. It must stay like it is. The interior white area should be fillable. But when i close the curve, it fails. Any helps greatly appreciated.

When i auto close it, looks like this and fails.

You can help me by explaining (if i can handle) or by downloading the .cdr file from my dropbox

    • Mike thank you so much, however I had been aware and sure to join there the nodes, I couldnt find a suitable way to join them. What is the tip ? Would i be doing something on the intersection ?

And kindly let me ask what is smart fill ? Smile where does it exist ? Thanks!

      • You can also select your curve and convert outline to object and then use smart fill to fill inner area (small gap between nodes eliminated by outline thickness)

        Best regards,

        Mek

        • Dear Mek, it worked. Thanks so much!

Thats something new, for me :)

( Mike thank you very much too, i still wonder how can i join that nodes you have shown in the figure. Normally i know how to join nodes but I could not succeed this time.)

          • Smart fill is probably the easy answer in the above case.

But the reason why you cannot close that curve is curves must close from the last node to the first. You cannot have part of the curve "hanging out". If you need to do that, then you need to break the curve apart at the point where you want to close the curve, so that the tail is part of a separate curve.

            • harryLondon, kindly very much for your explanation, it helped me. Now i understand why i wasn't able to make it a closed one.

I already tried breaking the curve apart, joining the nodes, combining, etc.. But at the end, i understand best is to leave that tail a separate curve, may be as a "group", would work for me too..

          • I would go with "Join Curves" in object menu (X7) or Arrange menu (X6). Works great with many options with custom gap tolerance. Smart fill will leave the original black outlined curve. Will have to be deleted manually. I tried with your file and it works great with Extend option in Join curves.

            • Thank you very much for the information. I think its better for me to upgrade to new versions, for such functions and ability, as you have clearly stated. I will keep your suggestion in mind.

              • Sorry I did not check the section you have posted and assumed it should be either X6 or X7. I think the join curves function also exists in X5.
