Coreldraw X6 on a Mac

I recently downloaded the trial version (64-bit) of X6. I have been running X4 under windows 7 using vmware 5.0.1 with few issues. Had lots of difficulty just getting the software to install and now that it is installed, it either randomly shuts down or locks up frequently. X4 tended to lock up occasionally, but X6 is shutting down or locking up sometimes every minute or so. Then I will have periods where it will work just fine for about 30-45 mins. Once it locks up or shuts itself down, I can't restart it without restarting windows.

I'm running on a mbp with 8 gb ram mt lion os

I'm pretty technically savvy and I've tried most things I can think of. Is this a known issue? Is there a work around? I'm currently not planning on upgrading to win 8. Is X6 been buggy and should I just stick with X4 for now? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello figrsk8r; I don't know a thing about a MAC, but you may want to try the 32 bit ver. of Corel.

    • For me, X6 has been rock solid, both on the Win 7 - 32 bit and Win 7 - 64 bit (using X6 64 bit on the latter PC).

You may want to do a workspace reset (F8 key) and if that does not help, then do a Repair-Installation from the DVD.

      • Thanks, I'll give both of these options a try. Since this was the trial download, I'll see if I can download the 32-bit version. I just don't want to purchase the upgrade if it won't work on my system. Only have windows for corel and one other program I can't live without :)

          Did you install the update?

X6 may not like older versions on the same system if it was not installed in it's own folder.

          • I would hope that the trial version already includes the update. Surely, nobody would risk losing customers by letting users download an obsolete trial version when there are fixes already available?

Hope and change!! See what that got us!

              • David, hahahaha!!

figrsk8r, FWIW, I've been using X6-64 on an iMac with Parallels and Windows 7. Aside from it not playing well with MacLook, if works fine. Even runs the laser. Not planning to upgrade to Windows 8 in the near future--afraid to mess with something that's not broken.

Hope you can work it out.

                Best, Ted

I'm not much help with the MACs because everyone I know who has a newer MAC actually runs Windows on it.
