Vignette Transparency

Hello, has the bug in the vignette transparency function been fixed yet? If not, any idea when?

Thanks, blessings, Ellen

  • Hello Ellen; Do you mean like the screen shot?

    George

    • Hi George, I am talking about the vignette function on the bitmap toolbar, under creative effects. I need the edges of a box to be transparent, and the transparent function that was in past versions is missing. The only choices now are black, white, or other color.

      Thanks.

      • Ellen,

I can confirm that both CDX4 and PPX4 respected transparency. However, it still does not work the same in X5 or X6. I don't know if this is a bug or they changed this intentionally. No one from Corel has confirmed this one way or the other.

So the quickest way to create the vignette in X6 is to work in PP.  Open your image (or use Edit Bitmap in CD), change background to a layer, add a Clip Mask and then run the Creative>Vignette effect on the Clip Mask. Save and done.

Brian also had an excellent method.

        • Hi Patti,

we must have responded around the same time. I wrote some weird response earlier and correct it just before LOL. Here is the video I just made at 2.28am!

          • Dratts, my video doesn't fit on the screen, so you can't see what I'm doing properly LOL. Sorry about that.

well, I am off to bed now, TGIF Big Smile

            • Thank you, Brian and Patty. I appreciate the tutorial very much. This is what I will do to get the effect I want.

However, Corel, if you are reading this, please bring back the transparency option in the vignette!!! Your customers shouldn't have to perform three steps instead of one click in order to duplicate something that was available in previous versions of Draw.

              • Good Morning Brian I would liike to know how to do it . Im using Corel Paintshop x6. Thanks

              Hi Ellen,

I totally lost the plot before - I have no idea what I was thinking LOL.

OK, here is how you can use the Vignette effect and achieve transparency:

              • open your image
              • promote the image to an Object (click the button on the right edge of the Background layer in Object Docker)
              • Apply a Clip Mask to Show All
              • with the clip mask selected run the Vignette effect using black as the colour

That will do what you are looking for. I apologise for going off the beaten track earlier. If you have any issues with these directions let me know and I'll make a video to show you.

              Best regards,
              Brian.

                Hi Ellen,

Yes, this bug was fixed in CDGS X6 - Update 4.

With an object selected (in either Photo-Paint or CorelDraw) the vignette effect now applies to the transparency.
(This broke in X6 GM but as I mentioned was fixed for Update 4).

                Cheers,

                Andrew
