A .cdr file from CDX6 when "Saved as" .cmx format can be opened in early version of CD?
Why .cdr when converted to .cmx format file is smaller (in KB)?
What are main differences cdr/cmx?
Most of the metadata is removed from .CMX.. CMX is Corel Meta Exchange format and hence the size is smaller. Object appearance is kept but you might loose some of the live data which may not allow you to edit the effects.
Hello cdr.cpt; To add to what Anand said the CMX file is for Corel Presentation Exchange. For the best answer to your guestion, you can go to the Help at the top of a CorelDRAW open window and do a search for Corel Presentation Exchange.

CMX only save the contents, doesn't include page setup, styles, etc, and most of the effect will be broken. Is useful for share just a simple design (such as a clipart, logo , etc) but of course, the best result is only with CDR file format
