Hi, everyone!
Why is the width of the "non-breakable-space" (e. g. ALT+0160) not the same as the width of the normal "space"? I could use the "narrow-non-breakable-space" but it's not available in everey OT-Font (e. g. Humanist777).
I can insert the &nnbsp from Arial in a text box with an other font - works fine. But if I work with styles and edit the style I lose the &nnbsp.
Any idea for me? Thanks for suggestions.
The width of the space and the non-breakable space are probably chosen by the font designer, and may therefore vary from font to font.
The standard space is considered flexible -- eg increased or decreased within a paragraph to effect full justification. But I've just done a quick test and the non-breaking space is not adjusted along with the standard space.
I think that's a bug. In a justified paragraph at least, the non-breaking space needs to take the same value as the standard space. But before I report that, can you give specific examples of any other circumstance where you are seeing different values for the non-breaking space ?
Thank you for your rapid answer.
I did a few tests - you can see them at the enclosed screenshot.
Maybe the bug only exists in Bitstream (BT) fonts???
Hello Oliver; Go to the Screen Shot below, Which is a Windows Character Map and check out what the fonts have.

Hi Oliver
Several of the Bitstream versions of fonts have that issue I would think it is a bitstream issue. Humanist 777 was originally designed by Frutiger for a third party then Linotype bought it and licensed it, then Frutiger got the rights back and re released with minor changes as Frutiger
just for fun see if the non breaking space in Frutiger from adobe is different Corel also have a version that was in corel 5 or x6 extras I think
