Some questions on PhotoPaint X7

Hi Everybody,
I’ll probably buy CDGS X7 after the first Service Pack comes out even
though I no longer use DRAW. I don't like PhotoShop and Paint Shop Pro is
not as complete an application.
.. However, I have several questions after reading the posts on DRAW.
1. Am I in for any surprises - good or bad - as happened in DRAW.
2. Is the general "feel" of the program similar to PhotoPaint X6 or X5.
3. Has the size shown on the JPEG export dialog been fixed.
4. Is all of the EXIF data now preserved.
5. Can the EXIF data be read within the program. I frequently check the
date the photo was taken.
6. Can I still create new tool bars and use my own images as icons on a
new tool bar.
7. In Curves, does the "curves" type behave itself or does it still take
on extreme shapes at the slightest push. (It's not a big deal since I
always use the "linear" option but it's time for Corel to get normal
behavior for the curves type.) Just be sure to leave the interactive
histogram. It's great.
8. Will PhotoPaint X7 open CPT files made in PhotoPaint 5.
9. Is there anything else that I should be prepared for. (I'm not
interested in the new features listed on Corel's site.)
.. Thanks for any comments.

  • Phil,

The program has the same feel, although the surround frame is a weird gray tone that's not related to your Windows color theme.

EXIF can be read through Document Properties.  Looks complete to me.

Curves seems to move normally and in controllable increments.

It opens any CPT files I have, dating back to PP4.

You can create new toolbars - don't know about your own icons, because I've never done that.

I would recommend uninstalling previous versions of CDGS before installing X7.  I kept X6 on the comp and there were some problems with file associations.

CDGS X7 is pretty much tied to your Internet connection (Help, Clip Art, etc.).  Without a constant connection, it loads very slowly.  If you work offline or need to work during an Internet outage, it will load, eventually.
