Doing a project today in PhotoPaint X7 (Update 3), but cannot seem to outline my text in a different color. We are using standard fonts like Ariel and Garamond, but can right click the mouse all day on the color palette without being able to add an outline to the text. Likewise, we can't find any text property for turning a text outline ON/OFF (we are new to X7 and still a little unfamiliar with the interface). Any help would be appreciated.
Hi LemonPeeler,
I don't know of an outline tool for text. However, here are two examples of how I create outlines of anything.
'
In the second image, I selected the text. Then I went to MASK > MASK OUTLINE > BORDER and set the width of the border. The selection is now only for the border.I filled it with green.
Actually, I prefer the effect seen in the third image. I did as follows.1. Converted text to a raster layer by OBJECT > TEXT > RENDER AS OBJECT2. Selected the text.3. Then applied the bevel by EFFECTS > 3D EFFECTS > BEVEL
I hope this helps.Phil
Hi,
You can also use duplicate layers of the text to get nice border effects.
Top Left: Duplicated text layer. Filled bottom layer with blue. Used transform tools to get edges.Top Right: Blurred the blue bottom layer.Bottom Left: Moved the blue blurred layer on top of red layer.Bottom right: Duplicated top right layers. Sandwiched a copy of the original blue layer between the red layer and blurred layer. Slight blur of the new blue layer. There are a lot of other possibilities using layers and layer masks.Phil
Thank you for the suggestions, Phil. I guess we may have been laboring under the wrong impression, namely that there was a text option for outlining text. Nonetheless, this impression came directly from the following quote, taken from the Photo-Paint application help as follows:
You can quickly change both the fill and outline color of text. You can change the fill, outline, and background color of text. In addition, you can change the appearance of text by painting it. This allows you to add different effects to the text.
Please note the references above to the ability to quickly change the OUTLINE color. As a result, we're not sure what they mean here in this help subject. Moreover, the general concept certainly was not suspect, since may programs allow you to turn on a text outline and format the width and color of that outline. We also appreciated the suggestions regarding the shading of text. Interestingly, however, doesn't the 'Drop Shadow' accomplish this very effect? Is there a reason you are doing it manually? I remember rendering these effects manually many years ago, but some of the built-in tools have helped facilitate some of these features. Thank you again for your reply.
You can make text outlines in PhotoPaint:
Try different brushes and brush sizes as this will greatly affect the end result.
But you're probably better off creating outlined text in Draw and importing it into PP.
