I'm embarrassed to ask this question because it's so basic...but here goes: I've got a jpg image of a star. I want to lay it over a background, so I created a mask with the magic wand that included the original white background, but not the star. I deleted the background and saved the image. When I try to lay it over a different background I get the star plus a white box surrounding the star. If I could make that box disappear, or go transparent, that would solve the problem.
I'm using PhotoPaint X7.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
Hi Mark,
I can't follow what you did.
However.
1. You can not save a file with transparency in the JPEG format. I used PNG which supports transparency.
2. - I put the star on a new layer.
- I turned off the eye on the background layer.
- I saved as a PNG file.
3. The image below is a screen shot from Windows Explorer.Let us know if you have any questions on this procedure.Phil
I always create an identical document with a transparent background, I copy and paste the original in there, mask the star, invert mask, delete the selected, save as file format that supports transparency, cpt is best choice for a working file.
Here is a simple method with no real time taken for professional edges
