I always get this files in with my production files. and I have specified under the Save Options to save them in the Temp folder, I tried to create a folder and tell it to save them there... and I still get then where ever my original file was. can some one tell me the trick to getting this to stop?
I think you are confusing Backup On Save with Autobackup. Backup On Save will always be to the original folder. Autobackup will go to the folder you specify. Try watching the folder whilst editing a file, when you close Draw the Autobackup will be deleted.
Ok grant it I might be confused. So my new question why is there two Backup??? I can see one backup most programs do that incase there is a power outage or some type of system shut down. again why is there two backups and then which one keeps sticking these files in with my documents and why cant I redirect then else were or can I?
harryLondon has written a very nice macro that gives you better control over how backup files are handled. There is a public version for X6 but I'm not sure if he has one for X7, yet.
I do have a version of the Useful Backups macro for X7 and have been testing it here. But the X7.1 update is due in June according to Gerard's post at http://community.coreldraw.com/blogs/gerard/archive/2014/05/16/coreldraw-graphics-suite-x7-and-looking-ahead.aspx so I want to test it with that and then see if any further changes are needed before posting a public test.
We also seem to be having autobackup problems.
Same here. We have autobackup set to three minutes and to a specific directory. Corel crashes. We restart. NO mention of any autobackup files.NO files in the chosen directory. It's set to do it and it never does. Or, it'll run correctly and make autobackups for a day or three after I have to do an F8 restart... then it stops and no autobackups are every found.
Autobackup does not work if you have Background Processes turned off. To check go here
Tools>Option>Global
Very strange that you don't get any autobackup files. And you say you have tried specifying a different location? Try using the default location (Temporary folder). Apart from that, Autobackup should not be used as a substitute for ordinary saves. If you have lost one hour's work because you haven't saved, you need to reconsider your workflow.
Edit: FYI, I tried both the default location as well as to direct it to a network folder, and both gave me the expected "AUTOBACKUP_OF_..." file.Check the setting in Options > Workspace > Save and specify a location. Set the time to a low value, say 1 minute.Close and reopen Draw to make sure the settings take, open the specified folder and make a change in an open file.Leave it for the specified time span and check the folder to see if the "AUTOBACKUP_OF_" file appears.
