Embarassed because I can't figure out this gradient issue

Like I start many questions, I've done this a million times in x4 but not in x7. It should be EASY! I use to do aa lot of banner borders and change colors multiple times. Now I only figured out a color and white. To do attached I SHOULD HAVE been able to do it as ONE rectangle, but ended up doing it as FIVE ! Other questions I'm generally not embarassed, but this one I am. I tried changing colors, but the entire thing would change colors. I clicked on the little trianges in Object Properties>Fill, and that didn't work either. [:$]

  • Hi Inj,

I don't remember X4 any more.  However, it seems that you are not using the Interactive Fill tool.

If so, then look up the Interactive Fill (aka gradient) tool in HELP. It's just about identical in DRAW.

You just drag markers to the tool from a palette. Then double click on a marker to change its color.

    • I had looked up "gradient" in help and it showed the 2 tone. In x4 all I can remember is clicking on the colors, and there was a slider to adjust which color you wanted to start where. And it was easy to change the angle and such. I don't understand newer versions making things more difficult. I'm headed to bed now, so I'll check that out tomorrow. THANK YOU!!!
      • Here's a file for you to play with. Select the rectangle on the right (left is your bitmap). Select the InterActive Gradient Tool Phil mentions. It is in the Toolbox towards the bottom (at least ina  default install I think it is).

Opening the Object Properties and switching to the Fill section, you should see something like the following:

        Argh. Forgot the file:

        • Hi Inj,

When you wake up, read the description in Photopaint's HELP.  It's easier to follow than the one in DRAW.

The Interactive Fill (aka gradient tool) is a gift from heaven.  It's one of two reasons that I use Photopaint instead of Photoshop.

Here's a screen shot from DRAW.

          • (I'm in bed on my tablet so im not in corel now) I can get to that bar where you have all the color changes, but every time I'd try to change a color, it would change the color of the entire thing. I couldn't get it to let me go from blue to red to white to red, etc.....
            • I have another question while im here, and especially since im om my tablet I dont feel like starting a new thread.

I had 3 large panels to send to my customer. 10 feet by 10 feet each. I export as jpgs at 72 dpi because that's what they want. 2 of the 3 are multiple jpgs to begin with. The problem is, theyre ending up as files that are 35 mb and larger. My customer tries to upload them to the place that prints them and that place says they're too big. On that export page, I generally keep, i think itsays quality, at 90%. If I lower that would it drop the size AND still have them look okay, Or what do I need to do?
              THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE!

Depends on what's in the image.
Maybe you could try going down one step. Check different areas in zoom level 1:1 (or zoom in even closer) in the preview, to see how much the final bitmap will be affected by the compression.

One more thing: The size you get, >35 MB, sounds too much for a 10 x 10 feet 72 dpi JPG.
I made a few tests and ended up with files between 3 - 11 MB depending on the content, with a 90% quality setting, RGB JPG.

            • Regarding to the original post (sorry, folks) ... have you tried with Mesh Fill?
