creating "3D-like" objects in CorelDRAW

For quite a while I'm trying to find a method (e.g. macro) to simulate "3D-like" round objects using CorelDRAW (CD).

The problem is described in the attached PDF file.

It is not an X7 issue only. In fact I work mainly with X6 (too lazy to set up my environment in X7...)

So far, I done this manually - with moderate success. Another method I used was to export to from CD a 3D editor and then re-import to CD.

That works but it's very time consuming

Does anyone know how? Does perhaps a macro exist?

  • I think it is best suited to other applications that support this type of "Mapping", such as Illustrator. Other than extensive use of the blend tool in Corel, which easily achieve the image to the left,, or best suited to full 3d applications (CorelCad) and renderers, such as image to the right.

    • Thank you for your reply, Mike. I am aware of full 3D applications able to make images like the one you show on the right.
However, I'm amazed to find that the image on left can be made in CorelDraw, using the blend tool.
Could you please show me how this is done? Should your file be too large, perhaps you could send it to me private?
Again many thanks for your suggestions.
      • Here is a small example on the how the blend was used for my example. Let us know what part you don't understand, if any. Also shown is a Mesh used to assist in visualising the curve of the glass with with reflections. The circles (ellipses) can later be combined into one object and "cut out" if you need the holes to be transparent. or open.

      • Okay, all is clear. My "manual" method I mentioned earlier worked in a similar way, except that I compressed the pattern elements one-by-one. Naturally, an ellipse is a simple object for explanation purposes. I'm now thinking of obtaining CorelCAD for more complex work, as it can import and export cdr files. Thank you very much for your help, Mike.
