I am in need of really emergency help. All of a sudden, every action I take in X7, causes my hard drive lite to come on. Going from one tab to another, the lite come on. I am running an I7, 16 Gbytes, medium video card and using 64 bit X7. Any thing I do, edit text, move text, move graphic takes for ever. A job I am working on that should take a couple of hours is taking a couple of days. I even reduced my display to "Draft", cancelled backups, I am saving by creating new files. No templates being used and in fact this is a file that was created last year (x7) and being update this year. I have scoured the forums, looking for anything - I must finish this job in a day or two.... that seems impossible at the current rate of work I am able to get done. I am working with two files both about 160 megabytes. Here is something that is the real puzzler, with just the welcome screen open, the same thing is occurring????????
This one's going to require we hunt and peck. My laptop acted like a dog until I replaced the hard drive.
Gentlemen: Your answers = I am using a SATA3 6mb hard drive. Defraggler tells me I am at 2% fragmentation. The hard drive has 1.2 terabytes of data on it. I turned off background tasks. I have used Corel as the only application after a clean reboot, no change in hard drive writing. I have even tried turning off the wi-fi. No improvement. Tried the F8 thing - no improvement.
I am running an I7, 16 Gbytes, medium video card, Windows 7 64bit Home Premium and using 64 bit X7. I run concurrently Adobe CS3 Photoshop, illustrator and in design as well as Word perfect and adobe acrobat, etc. and have never experienced a slow down like this. This writing to the hard drive occurs religiously after text editing ( I get about 10-15 second of editing) and 30-45 seconds waiting for the hard drive. It is (Corel) ruthless when I am deleting. Delete a graphic and instant write to hard drive. ALL THE WRITES (maybe reads) are the same flashing of the Hard Drive light. Maybe the hard drive is signaling an alien from a distant planet? This delay problem seems to occur more frequently with text applications. It takes forever for the fonts to display (system has 704 fonts installed.) The outline pen tool same problem, hit or miss in getting it to display. I have a serious problem, I can not be the only one with this problem. I am on the downside of this project - something that should have taken a week, not three. I have no confidence in trying Corel x8. As I mentioned when I reloaded the software some other slow downs were "repaired." The main menu selections dropped down after a second ot two delay as before they took for ever. It is a shame Corel does not have a downloadable file that should be able to run with testable stats. Having this comparison would rule out hard ware problems and identify program area problems. To me it seems I found a great piece of software with its black hole! Rangeryder
What operating system?
Did you notice in a post earlier about the printer issue, I believe it was networked, not having that as a default seemed to help.
