this is 2 layers, want to remove the hexagons from within the logo. Looking to create something like the second pic.
I can think of a couple of ways; there are probably more. Suitability may depend on the details of exactly what you want to do.
If the hexagons are all combined into one Curve, then a Trim operation using another shape produces this:
Now, that result is all one curve, so the "SR" has the same outline as all of the honeycomb. That wouldn't be a problem if, as in the example picture you showed, the outline of the "SR" was present in front of this, and with a heavier line weight. You can even have that shape "left behind" (Leave original source object) when it is used for the Trim operation, so it's already in the right location.
If I move that forward in the stacking order and add a heavier line weight, I get this:
Another approach would be to take the "SR" outline and a rectangle, then combine them to make one curve:
Then use that as a PowerClip frame for the honeycomb shape:
That approach doesn't really alter your honeycomb shape the way that the "trim the curve" approach did. So, you're free to edit the "frame" shape (including the "SR"), edit the honeycomb, or change the position of the honeycomb with respect to the frame.
thanks for the info. I used the curve and trim method. Got the outline but how do I increase the line width?
In the example I gave using Trim, I specified "Leave original source object". So, the "SR" outline was not deleted after being used in the trim operation. It was, however, beneath the newly-created curve in the stacking order. I moved it in front of the other content, and then changed the outline width.
If you still have that outline, but it has been moved away from the other content, then you can easily move it into position in front of the newly-created curve by having Snap to Objects enabled.

Since I'm not looking at your artwork, I don't know exactly what you are asking about. Did you combine the rectangle and the text - which would turn all of that into a single curve object - before using it as a powerclip frame?
Maybe one or more screen shots, with annotation, if what I'm asking doesn't make sense?

Yes, something is not right there.
For the PowerClip frame, I would start with a single Curve made by Combining (not grouping) a rectangle and the text outline:
When I select that, the Status bar shows "Curve on Layer 1" and "Number of Nodes: 34".
To create the PowerClip, I would select the honeycomb content, then Object -> PowerClip -> Place Inside Frame. After the pointer changes to show that I'm supposed to select the frame, I would then select the rectangle+Z Curve that I had created earlier.
