This bug keeps appearing in X3, X7 and now again in X8. Create a graphic in CorelDraw and apply a standard transparent lens to the object, export as a transparent PNG. It should be transparent so when used as a PNG it's a lens.
Currently it is exported as a solid. Time to find my CorelDRAW X5 CDs and install it so I can work on the graphic needed.
See below, the grey box has a lens of 50% applied to it, you can see this over the blue box. When exporting the rest of the grey box is a solid - it should be a PNG transparency.
Opened up X5, and it appears that the Lens does not working there either, but Transparency does. So that's the difference.
Can the team take a look at Lens and see what they behave differently when exporting to a transparent PNH.
Below is a screenshot of a transparent graphic in X5.
It works as designed
I think that it would be better if transparency were not even an option for new Lens effects. That's just one of many lens effects, and I don't know if any of the other ones have the ability to remain "live" when exported to PDF or PNG (compared to the transparency that is available through the Transparency Tool or Object Properties).Sometimes a feature that has outlived its usefulness become a liability. Perhaps they could program it so that it still supported existing transparency lens effects in legacy files, but would not provide the opportunity in the UI to create new ones...An observation: If I apply a transparency to something using the Transparency Tool or Object Properties, then I note that the Object Manager shows the word "Lens" under that object. What a great way to create confusion!
The transparent object in CorelDRAW was transparent in the PNG. If it was placed in another application the transparent object would be transparent. Not sure that transparent PNG's are not just for placing.
Hi David and Eskimo - thanks for your input and suggestions.
I hope the screenshot gives a better example and compares how lens transparent (uniform) works compared to transparency fill. I would not expect the fish-eye etc lens to work in other applications, but straightforward uniform transparent lens I would expect it to be transparent as a PNG.
Below is a CorelDRAW X8 graphic that has the text Lens and Transparency with a 50% black outline. Lens is a uniform transparent lens and Transparent is a 50% uniform transparent colour. The red bitmap fill is also 50% transparent fill. The graphic was exported as a transparent PNG and imported into a bitmap editing application and a background applied. The transparency works as expected, the lens does not.
I think removing transparent from Lens might be a good approach. This is what got me confused the old wineglass transparency icon from X7 (and older) was removed from the toolbar as standard, so I applied a lens instead of a transparency to graphics for a project and got very confused.
Anyway might be something to look at with a future release to make this less confusing, and I would really welcome the return of the wineglass transparency icon from prior versions as the checker board now used is not obvious and looks like the a texture icon.
Until you mentioned it I haven't used the lens docker in I don't know when the transparency feature there needs removed.
