Corel Draw 3.0 seems to load just fine on Windows 7 along with a BUNCH of old windows 98 programs. I can open on old Corel CDR file or create a new one just fine, but when I go to SAVE the file or EXPORT it in a different format - I get an error message - "Error writing (name of file)".
Anybody have a clue?? I did try running Corel Draw as administrator - didn't help, same message.
Thanks
Try resetting CDraw, when you open it hold the F8 key at the prompt say yes. This brings you back to factory settings, it may eliminate the problem. If that doesn't work try a repair using your install disk.
Mmm .. thanks but didn't wok. Confirmed problem on my win7 laptop and desktop. Problem exists still on both. Also found a few other poor souls w/same problem on web. All unsolved. Sooo .. broke down and ordered X4 (ebay $50) - supposedly that was the LAST version that could open some of the old CD3 - cdr files. I hope it works ... otherwise, I'll have to keep an old win98 clunker in the corner.
Have you tried setting the compatibility mode to run CorelDRAW? If not, go to C:\Program Files\Corel... and find the CorelDRAW exe file. Right click on it and set the compatibility mode to Win2000 or something old. Then double click on the EXE file to run it. See if that works.
If not, then visit Virtualbox.org and download a copy of their (free) virtual machine, and after you have that on your win 7, install an older Windows in the VirtualBox machine, such as Win 98 or win 2000....and then install your older CorelDRAW program(s).
I just tried some CD v3.x files done in '88 - opened in X4 no problem... and then did a Save as X4 file. Again no problem opening in X4 with that file.

@Hugh - yeah thanks. I did try them all ... have not ever got any compatability settings to ever accomplish anything on any windows. I almost think MS put them in to discourage anyone from trying anything else. Virtual box IS a great idea .. read sketchy reviews on how well 98se will work ... but definitly intreguied. I like the idea that they use shared files. Had Virtual XP .. but was horrified to learn that it kept seperate files ... ugh orginizational disaster. But just haven't had the time to give VB a shot win win 98se yet ... also a tiny bit chicken.
@DD - Good news! That's what I read, that only SOME of the windows 7 features were unavailable with x4 and that some of the CD3.0 files may not open perfectly ... but all I need is 98%. Have so many business drawings etc... really need to be able to get at the majority of them. Thanks.
