Importing vector graphics pdf - works for polygones, not for points?

Hi,

I'm trying to import this pdf here (http://pubs.usgs.gov/tm/2006/11A02/FGDCgeostdTM11A2web_Sec37.pdf into CorelDRAW Technical Suite X6. It works - but only for the polygones. The pdf consists of text, polylines, polygones and points. The points do not appear after the import. In fact, they are there, I can select the nodes, but I can't make them visible?

I use CorelDraw, not the technical suite. Neither X6 nor X7 import that PDF properly. Seems I have seen this before with PDFs from them for the geo-fills.

I can open it fine in Xara Designer Pro. I made a new PDF from it, but CDX7 still looses a few of the fills. Most of them are fine, though. If you would like I can upload that PDF to dropbox. The fwe missing fills are really still there (looses about 2 or so per page). Selecting them shows a line weight, but in a quick try, I couldn't make them show up.

I suspect that because these are made in Illustrator with the fills clipped to their rectangles, that this is the issue. CD really doesn't handle them completely/fully. Of course, Illustrator opens it fine as did XDP.

As another test, I noticed that they offer EPS files too. No joy in opening them, either.

Let me know if you would like me to upload it. I suspect I could remove the clipped fills as well. It would look a mess on-screen as the fills will partially overlap their neighboring fills and you would have to sort out which belongs to which.

Hi Mike,

that would be awesome if you could share them via dropbox! If there are only a few gliches I can easily fix them.

I've downloaded the Illustrator trial and tried to modify the files, but I'm totally stuck, as I have no experience with AI. I tried to export them in other file formats (svg, wmf, emf, dwg...) but no look, still no points in CD. :-/

How do you remove the clipping? I was wondering if I could re-arrange the patters (so they don't overlap anymore) and than remove the clipping, and hope, that the import works after this procedure...

Here's a ZIP containing a PDF and a CDR X6 file. One or the other should work for you.

Note a couple things. First, I converted the fonts to curves. Second, there are a few red rectangles on page one, and one on page 3. For these to come into CDX6, I had to convert the lines to shapes. I couldn't get them to come into CD as lines.
