How to copy and then paste at a different location on the same drawing.

Try control-D (duplicate).

The first time you use it, you will be able to choose the offset distance. After that, each control-D will use the same offset. Its also faster than copy and paste, because it doesn't waste time copying to and from the clipboard each time.

Harry, that would require one to look down at the keyboard to fish for the control key and the letter d. I hate taking my focus off the screen. LOL

Its optional. Your method works fine, as long as you don't need the duplicates to be a specific distance from the originals.

Neither method is really acceptable. I need to zoom in to see/grab some small detail, zoom out, and zoom back in to another area of the drawing and paste THERE, where I want it to go, NOT where it already was. Because I don't necessarily know the specific offset distance, that doesn't work, and it's unnecessary effort to figure out offsets. To be zoomed in and use the click-drag method, I might have to drag all day to get to the other side of the drawing, and I don't seem to be able to drag onto another page.

My department was recently forced into the Designer X6 world because of the XP obsolescence issue. I've been efficiently using Designer for twenty years, and version 9 for more than ten. The copy/paste function used to work thus: copy something, change focus to new location on same page or another page, paste into center of focus area. Very frustrating to have functionality obliterated like this.

Several other BAD-PET peeves with this new version:
1. Hijacked Windows keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl-F6, which cycles through all open windows in D9 and countless other apps, over decades. Now, in Designer X6 this function is Ctrl-Tab?
2. Where is "previous zoom level" function?
3. Inability to set mouse button function to "View: Zoom In"
4. The interface can be set to be similar to Micrografx Designer, but that does not restore lost functions, plus it restricts access to toolbox fly-out menus.

I manage the Technical Publications department for a leading-edge technology engineering/manufacturing company. Two cardinal rules we adhere to are: don't take tools away from customers, make them better; familiarity breeds usability, so do not move features around willy-nilly. These rules help ensure usability for customers, simplifies product training, tech support, marketing, and builds brand loyalty.

I understand the desire for commonality across multiple similar software platforms, and the potential benefits to Corel, since CorelDRAW! is the flagship app. Designer and CorelDRAW! have always had different audiences, technical vs artistic, even though there can certainly be crossover use. However, what usability testing was done to validate the radical departure of functional continuity? I could accept developers moving functions within the interface, just don't remove functions. It is maddening to not be able to simply do that which I used to do simply.

Heck, even Microsquish left functionality in while completely revamping UI design for their newer "ribbon" design paradigm.
