I've upgraded from X6 and Tabs are driving me insane. I drag in any number of images to view and work on them side by side. What do I need? - auto-resizing, floating windows and all the real estate I can muster.
1) Sure, open images using Open or Open Recent... and if the Option is set to "Open documents in floating window" they will open in floating windows, but drag them in from Windows Explorer and they tab. Can we have consistency here? Better still, can we get rid of tabs?
2) Tabs should be optional. They take up real estate and get in the way of working with multiple images.
3) The snap feature which opens the image to full workspace should also be an option. Why should I have to use Ctrl just to dock windows across the top? Lunacy.
4) no auto-resize of the floating window? Seriously? I mean, seriously? Corel clearly wants me to use tabs, but seriously, no auto-resize of the windows? Really? How many lines of coding must that have saved?
Here's where I'm coming from. I use SolidEdge CAD and when they introduced a revolutionary non-history-based method of creating 3D objects they had the good sense to maintain the old history-based method for those who preferred it. Everybody was happy. Cannot the same be done here and allow floating windows exactly as they were in X6, just for those of us who prefer/need that way of working?
Yes, it drives me crazy too... I had X4 and I got very unhappy when I found this windows mess... I use to have 4 to 8 windows open, plus one reference photo for skin colours and I also change the view size very often, which make this tab mess almost hopeless...
The totally useless tab (when you have one photo in one window) steal also valuable space at the top of each window, making every window bigger than it have to be!!
Sorry to hear this issue is still causing grief to faithful Paint users. I've given up on Paint in so much that I won't be upgrading from X6 unless this issue is fully resolved.
I'm naturally glad you (David) did help many other users and I understand that you maybe not see this auto function (or the space eating tabs) as very important, if you not work with many pictures at the same time...
The main problem with this case, is that you can't give a link to a page where it is possible to report and grade problems like this... Probably because a really helplful page like that (best with categories) is missing!
First off I never said it's not important. It's important to READ what I say and comprehend. I said in response to the statement that a user made that they would not upgrade until this was resolved. I SAID, "Then you will never be updating." Unfortunately those who imagine conversations decided this demonstrates I'm against the feature. If you read this thread I'm not the only one who thinks that, I'm most likely the one with the most operational experience with Corel.
In fact, I am not from the WEB industry but when I found out about this I gathered others from the web industry and notified Corel. I and the others in the next cycle tried to convince Corel to address this issue as well as many other web issue. Very little to nothing was done.
I don't work for Corel nor do I control anything they do. I sign NDA agreements and if I have contact information I CANNOT hand that stuff out. For the very largest part if they want something they contact me.
Now I am confused... This basic missing functionality (auto photo windows resize) have nothing to do with the web / internet?!? Or did you mean the missing report page or pages (??) which naturally would be very valuable, both to report bugs and when the user interface not work as easy as it should... Plus maybe also as a wish list for future functions, with both votes and grades of importance...
And I didn't write that you didn't think the autosize function is important, just that I understand if you not see it as VERY important (for your own personal use) and that is a big difference!
But I see now that I forgot to write a "maybe" above, that I just added for clarity... Sorry for that!
Yes the one user with auto photo window resize was a web creator and years ago he privately communicated his work flow to me, many people do that. Not an issue for my work flow however Corel not focusing on easily attainable features across various industries affects us all.
Now we're on to a different subject, I believe there should be a location/email for users to send bugs and requests. However that location would be inundated with nonsense daily. Many users do not understand enough about the subject of their request to formulate a question. In today's threads alone are several examples of users having near zero understanding of file format technology limitations and how we utilize those limitations in cogent manner. COREL NEEDS TO UP THEIR GAME WITH SUPPORT!
This does not mean Corel should not address the need. They should but it will be a long process. Programming for an application that interfaces with multiple controlling technologies is complicated. Supporting users in a manner in which they understand the core needs sufficiently enough to understand why programmers have limitations is what's needed.
Doing so would improve the user experience and improve the feedback from users. Instead we have gotten a mess with new features over the years. Multi-page sizes in documents supported incorrectly, font manager extreme poor performance, transparency support 6 cycles to repair properly, PDF export 5 cycles to support, keep desktop objects on layer an solution to a problem caused by the multi-page size documents and single page size multi-page documents that solution implemented very poorly. The list goes on.
So as you can see they let a great deal go so if they don't serve your needs use a different software is my only solution for you. That awful but you need to make a living as do many other who have moved on.

Thank's for your advice, but other software seem to be even worse... I did first try one that many did recommend as a finer alternative to Adobes famous one, because it was faster and did offer the same functionality, to a dramatically lower one time price... But it did have very few tool icons, so I had to spend 4 times longer to open each tool, hunting them down in menues - instead of just clicking one icon... And the result is clearly worse than that I must adjust the photos windows, every time I change the zoom...
And a friend who had Adobes version, did confirm that that work exactly in the same horrible way... So he told me that I was actually lucky to have PP 2018 and yes, everything I tried (except the idiotic photo windows management) work excellent (for me) in PP 2018 - but I have not tried to optimize any gif movies yet, so there may I find another ugly surprise!?
Yes, about optimizing... I mainly "only" colour correct, fix pale or dim photos so they look max natural and remove any annoying objects that take focus from the motive... Plus fix other faults, when they occur - like cut the photo in a better way and tilt them, when needed... But I never distort any persons look or "clean up" skin, so it look plastic!
