Most of the time my designs print pretty good on my Epson p800. Every now and then a new design will print with parts of it having jagged edges. When zoomed in on the screen, it looks great at any magnification. I'm not too computer savy, but I have been working with Coreldraw for 6 or 7 years, most recently on x8. I have read other similar complaints, but I'm kind of stumped.
I'm surprised there has been no comments for a month. Anyway, I have a design with about 30 different objects that overlap each other. Looks great on the monitor. When printed, some areas are sharp and other areas are jagged. Now, when I separate all 30 objects and make a print, each object prints fine. Reassemble all 30 to the final design and when printed, once again some sections are sharp and some are jagged. There has to be a simple solution. Right?
all vector shapes?
Text?
How does it look in wireframe view?
In this particular design, no text and all vectors. In wire frame (I don't really know or understand what its for) all of the lines look a little stepped when zoomed in. I assume that's normal.
I have other designs with 400+ objects that are layered, shadowed, combined etc. and overall fairly complex but print beautifully. I use the same techniques and style with all of my x8 work. Never any bitmaps but usually some text. I will try to upload 2 sample photos. The first one prints beautifully, the 2nd one from another file (same object) has horrible jaggies.
Are you printing directly from Draw's Print dialog to your Epson printer? This looks like the effect you can get when exporting to a format that doesn't properly support transparencies.I guess that in the part where you get these jagged edges, there is some kind of transparency (lens) involved, and the lens + everything underneath it will be converted to a bitmap.
Yes, I print directly from the X18 print box. I never export and do everything within X18. When it does happen, it seems to do so when I start a new design and use some objects I have already built from other files. The other files actually print fine.
What happens if you choose "Print as bitmap:" in the Print dialog?Same thing?Would it be possible to share a file?If you post it here, change the file extension to .zip (this forum doesn't accept .cdr )
I think I have narrowed it down to inside drop shadows. I don't understand why some drop shadows print fine for some things and not for others. They are all inside shadow. I will continue to experiment and see what happens.
Please let us know the results. As I said in my first post, some effects (transparencies/shadows for example) can not be "translated" to other file formats or to your printer, and therefore they have to be converted to something that can be, in this case a very crude bitmap.Did you try printing as bitmap?I would love to see a file.Would be interesting to see what happens here, and also if I can find out what's causing it.
First, I would like to thank you for taking the time to help me with this problem. I have tried to upload a zip file but am having trouble with the process. Could I send you the file through email?
Here is a jpeg photo of a very large and complicated file that took weeks to build and prints beautifully. 100's of objects, drop shadows, etc. But, if I copy an object from this file into a new file I sometimes end up with jaggies. Grrr
