Is there a maximum point size to the drag font option. Also applies to point size in font menu on right of screen (circled below). I have just tried it and it limits it back to 3000pt. I also tried to change the letter size using the dimension boxes, which works fine with any size below 783.167mm which as expected is exactly 3000pt (Ariel letter S as example). If you try to put a bigger number in, there is no warning, it just jumps back to 783.167 again.
If I change the actual number in drawing area box it allows me to put larger numbers in. it's annoying as I normally drag to the size I need then fine tune with the point size.
I'm sure I have used the drag font size bigger then 3000pt in previous versions but can't be sure. Is this a change to this version? (x19 cloud )

I ran into this when working on a VBA macro, and I don't really understand the inconsistency of behavior.
Many operations seem to be limited to 3000 point maximum, but that particular control does not.
There has been a 3000 point limitation for text for as long as I can remember but it is apparently possible to type in a bigger size in Property Bar, which is new to me.Works in 2018 as well but not in 2017, and only in Property Bar, not in Object Properties or when dragging.Strange.
it is strange - the main thing I like about coreldraw is the freedom to create without having to use scaling! This is a bit of a disappointment especially as it's so unnecessary. Still as I show in the picture there is a way around it. I'm surprised I haven't come across it before.

The reality is that with all this recoding the application will IMO have rough edges that need smoothed out for several versions to come. Update 3 does seem to be a good step in the right direction.
As Ronny points out, the 3000 point limitation has been around for a while - and that limit used to also apply when setting the font size using the Font Size box in the Property Bar. Here is what I see if I try to use that to set an Artistic Text shape to 3001 points in X5, X7, and X8:
In 2018, the Font Size box appears to have gotten the superpower of being able to set font size larger than 3000 points. That capability seems to have been retained in 2019.
In all of those versions - X5, X7, X8, 2018, and 2019 - text that is freehand stretched larger than 3000 points quickly "snaps back" to 3000.

I think you may have meant that question for the opening poster...
